Pigeon Talk

Generally it is shared brooding duties, but I have had hens who resisted giving their mate turns at brooding - even had one cock that thought it was his job to incubate 24 hour shifts. Pigeons are truly interesting - affairs, divorces, polygamy, same sex couplings, poor parenting, squab abuse ----------- just like humans.
I have one pair that is papa and daughter! That's so not right it's of the scale but what can I do?! :idunno

They are truly interesting creatures.

Clyde is on the nest now! :yesss:
I think that's one of the qualities that make pigeons so appealing to us - that cock and hen co-parent.:love

Not much new except my 'oops' babies, #744 and #745 are about to fledge. They are about 25 days ols and starting to eat seeds.

That’s another amazing thing... less than a month old, and ready to be on their own.

Wow!! And so pretty too! :love

X2
Thank you.:)

I'll top that with my 2 brothers pair. I split them up and mated them with hens and they raised young but still roosted together at night.

This is my most devoted pair-2 hens.

They have been sitting on 4 plastic eggs for a couple of months now although they both take frequent breaks during the day they do often cuddle up in the nest bowl overnight.
Awhile ago this bird tried to take a day shift on the eggs but they ignored him and he gave up.
