Pigeon Talk

Well, tilty pigeon is still tilted. The other two are perfectly fine, no symptoms of anything. I'm not really sure what else I can do for this guy except give it time. I'll give him some Equimax for good measure to kill any parasites he might have, I guess. Other than that, I'll just wait. It's been nearly two weeks now, so if it was PMV it should be getting close to running its course, but again, with no other symptoms and the other two being fine, I don't think it was PMV.

@backyard pigeons I forgot to say, I'm glad your pigeon has recovered :)

I hope your pigeon makes a complete recovery don't get me wrong. However at some point in time you have to face reality and ask yourself.

What kind of life is this bird living and is it suffering?

I have no doubt this bird would have already fell to a predator if it were not for your loving care.

If he doesn't make a full recovery within a month, I'll likely put him down. He doesn't seem to be in pain and he's eating and drinking on his own, so for now I'll give him more time.

The male will usually take the day shift on them, he isnt at all? Is the female taking many breaks?

Darn, I forgot to look just now, to see which one was out. They look so similar, I didn’t look close enough. I’m usually gone during the day, so I’ve only seen her on the nest, but I’ll check today while I’m home.

For those that don’t know Pyxis, I can attest that she can most definitely make the “tough” decisions when necessary.
(I’m one that sucks at it. But getting better, I think)

Generally it is shared brooding duties, but I have had hens who resisted giving their mate turns at brooding - even had one cock that thought it was his job to incubate 24 hour shifts. Pigeons are truly interesting - affairs, divorces, polygamy, same sex couplings, poor parenting, squab abuse ----------- just like humans.
