are hawks something you have to deal with all the time or are you catching them migrating?
Not sure about BP but I have issues with them year round but I seem to have more around than most folks. In Fall/winter the activity definitely peaks though.

I would think Blanco body is sore all over from being grabbed. Poor bird...but what a lucky bird!!
Agreed. Coming back to this thread this morning with a clear head reminded me of an incident I had last year where a cooper's grabbed one of my birds but it got away with only a few small wounds like yours. It was drooping its wing pretty heavily and had a bit of a stagger so I feared for the worst but had to go to work and didn't get the chance to check on it again. By the next day it had improved and made a full recovery in just a few days. I believe given some time yours will do the same :)

Just got home - First, I think your pretty white bird will be fine. You have been given excellent advice and I don't disagree with it. I 'jus doctor my birds a bit diferent'. If it bleeds and is free of debris I don't even always wash the wound very thoroughly. I don't oppose anti biotics, I just avoid them when I can. I like to se a scab form to cover the wound or I might use raw honey as a dressing.
Pigeons don't seem to easily go shocky after an attack but if the bird seemed to be in shock I would give Aconite in homeopathic formula. Then I would give Arnica Montana 30C for bleeding, swelling, etc. There's a few other remedies I use, if nerve damage is suspected, or fractures. TBH, in this case I would just rinse with saline and give a dose of Arnica.
Is there a puncture wound? I can't see its location very well or how deep it might be. For that I might give Ledum Palustre 30C just to be safe.
In the last 2 pics I see a bird doing very well. Maybe even proud of the escape... Lol Eating and drinking, correct?
Definitely do not cull. Like everyone else, I predict a full recovery!:)

Best of luck to you and 'Blanco'.:fl
Thanks bio! I have gently wiped the would with warm water, and cleaned it that way. I applied neosporin. I will continue applying neosporin. There are so punctures. They are difficult to see in the pics. One is kinda big (Its hard to say how deep) and the other I'm not worried about. Thankfully it missed the crop.

I kinda liken the name. I think I will keep it. :)

See how we just named BP's bird? ;)
YEah! And it's a good name to! :thumbsup
We both assumed it is a cockbird, I went to original post and re-read to see if possibly a Blanca was more correct:D
I do belive 'it' is a male...
BP calls the bird 'it', @CCUK says 'she' What do you conclude? I can't tell from photo...
I thinks it's a male, but not positive.

*update*

This morning the bird is doing better. He has eaten a little, but I haven't seen him drink. He has started putting some weight on his leg, which is awesome. He is a bit mellow after all this, it is not in shock I don't think. I Think I will keep him in for one more night, than move him out in a separate cage in the loft.

*The full story*

I was really rushed to explain what all happened after it first happened. So, I was flying 7 pure white homing pigeons. 2 of them had never been out before. They were doing great. They all flew a bit, and then would land on a tree or the loft. They are all new, clumsy flyers, and so they are super loud when flying. I kept think with all the noise and white birds I was gonna get a hawk attack... I did. One of the whites who had never been out ever before flew up into a low branch of a pine tree. A hear a whizz go over me and look up to see a, I now believe, a sharp skinned hawk going after the bird. The bird saw it, and the poor thing just kinda hovered there cunfused as to what to do. The hawk grabbed it, and took off. what a first fly for the little guy. It must have been a young one, because it could hardly carry the pigeon. It slowly sailed down as I was chasing and screaming at it. It finally hit the ground and I spooked it off, along with the pigeon. The pigeon took off out of sight. I thought for sure he was a gonner. I ran back I my loft and called in the other 6 birds. They were like statues. They would not move to my whistle. I caught a few to speed things up. after about 10 min they were all safe inside. I then ran to the front of our house and looked around. I was lucky enough to see it on my neighbors roof. After about an hour of trying to coax it down with food and a crate of pigeons, it came down. I netted it easily. It was stained red all on its back. With a leg that didn't move at all. And there is the story... I will keep the whites locked in for 3 days hoping that the hawk will not try again. The racers will fly rain or shine as always.
