Pigeon Talk

Wow those are gorgeous!
Bummer on the other boy. Will you just keep him and see what happens eventually?

Yes, I'm gonna keep him. He's a sweetheart and there has been some improvement so there is a chance he might get even better with time. I don't think he'll really be able to fly and see where he's going, though, so I'm trying to think of how to deal with that in a loft situation.

Here are photos as promised awhile ago. The ones on the bucket are the squeakers. Anyone know what coler they are? I also need a bigger feed pan!View attachment 1610327View attachment 1610328View attachment 1610329
You have a beautifully coloured flock. They look great!
That's a handy chart. Mine are all checkered or Barred!
Well he's still tilted. But he doesn't seem bothered by it. He eats, drinks, flaps around, etc. Doesn't seem in pain. I'd put him down if he seemed to be in discomfort, but he doesn't.

Anyway, since this happened I'm pretty sure he's not going to breed ever. So I've bought these guys:

A silver hen, and the cock is what's called bronze kite:

They'll ship to me after Christmas :) We're waiting until the flood of packages dies down.
They look lovely. They will hopefully make some nice babies.

Beautiful birds!! :love:love
Also the ones that don’t look like pigeons are quail!

@Fields Mountain Farm the one in the background that is spotted is my hen port.
Thought I saw quail...:lau
She's lovely!! :love
:highfive:

Im glad he's doin well! :yesss:
Those are gorgeous!! Congrats!:highfive:

sounds as if a hawk/hawks are hitting your flock on exercise flights.
It is my own fault I have been letting free fly with the boobs up all day.
I am going to start to be more regimented on the time. However even with 34 birds as you can attest reaching my goal of 50 will not take long once February rolls around. Nearly all of my breeders are in tack.

Yes its amazing how smart they are. I had one of my birds get cocci (the one in my avater) and i had to push a pill down its throat. I figured it wouldnt come to me anymore when i called (she comes on command) but it either forgot or knew it healed it because it still comes!
This whole ordeal with this pigeon has shown me how smart they are. When I first got him, he was skittish and panicked if I tried to get too close to him. Now, he seems to know I've been helping him. He doesn't move at all when I open the door to reach in to refresh food and water, and he even lets me pet him. I can't say the same thing happens when you nurse an ailing chicken or duck.

Those are good. I suspect @backyard pigeons 's browns might be recessive reds?

Is this the med you ordered?

Are you a coffee drinker? I use the plastic coffee containers with 3 sections cut out. Easy to take the lid off and refill with a pitcher I carry outside with me.
I'm a major coffee drinker! haha ...but I drink instant at home:oops: and those containers don't seem right. I don't drink milk but my brother saves their empties for me. Your idea seems very practical too! :thumbsup

Waiting on more pics of those hairy little squabs with their fat short beaks...

They have been pretty tight to the nest, we’ve had a couple of really frigid days, so I haven’t made mom or dad get off the nest. I think tomorrow will be a little warmer. We never got above freezing today.
