Pigeon Talk

Not pigeon related but egg related. I got the first egg from one of my cuckoo marans today! :celebrate I got three in June so they're a little over 6 month old. Happy happy!

Sweet! Nice color, especially for a first egg! My Marans would start out light, then get darker over the first few days, then lighten near the end of the laying season.

I have one Marans pullet that hatched in March that still has not laid an egg. :hmm

I was surprised one layed. I have 3 marans and an araucana the same age. This was the first. I wasn't expecting anything till spring but it has been really mild over here recently. I even have daffodils coming up in my front garden!

@WVduckchick I just now noticed that you started the thread
, Welcome to my pond, swim, wade or sit on the bank. Your famous! Lol. That's an active one!

She's infamous. The Pond is famous just like Briar Rabbit's briar patch - it's a 'safe' place.

Famous? :lau
It’s a great thread and a great group of friends. Feel free to pop in any time!

Speedos frowned upon.

Bio said that there's no need to feed at night!

@biophiliac what temp of food is best? And yes I will make sure the crop is empty.
Ok that does make sense. I shouldn't have read your post on incubating pigeon eggs though. I had pretty much forgotten my idea to do it you reminded me.

Those pictures take me right there! Nice birds and nice loft. Didn't see yr homer coming in until you pointed him out, :love. I have plastic over the opening on one side of the loft too. Do the birds need more food in cold weather? It seems to me they would need more calories to stay warm. I'm sure I have been overfeeding, especially since they haven't been flying and breeding is done. So now I'm trying to cut back to the right amount for several reasons! I'm not exactly sure what the right amount is, especially in winter.
