Pigeon Talk

Pretty much. It has been wet over here recently. They are cattle farmers and also good friends. She also has a herd of reindeer that are very well tended. The chickens are a source of eggs for them, nothing more. They get fed and watered and that's about it. Some of the others are feathered leg breeds and they're all the same. I'm trying to put the guilt on her to care for them better. This is also the farm that has the white pigeons!

I can attest that feather legged breeds and mud is not a good mix!

Okay, I have studied my pigeons closely, and now I think the silver is a hen, the bronze kite a cock, and also maybe my tilty almond is a hen? It's so hard to tell because the frilled feathers make them look bigger than they are so it's hard to look at them and tell which are larger, etc. I may just weigh them.

Have you taken any recent pics? Seen any mating type behavior?

I just took a peek at the eggs. No sign of development yet. But it’s still early. I was thinking it had been a week, but it hasn’t.

And I need to get a video of Bugsy flying around. He is amazingly agile and flying well for 8 weeks old. He also took the top left roost (where Breezy was in the labeled pic) this evening. Growing up!

So.........after speaking with some folks online I thought I'd let the bird that got out and came home fly again. Figured she came back once and should come back again. While trying to let her out another got out with her. (they are new adults so not exactly homed to my loft). The one I wanted to let out came back (Winning) but the other is long gone. I sent a text to the old owner to keep an eye out. (bummer). Anyway, new loft construction is under way and hopefully my bird goes to it's old home and I can get it back. Pigeon stuff is tricky.

Oh dang, I hope it turns up one place or the other!

That's how I lost my second bird. The female from one of my original pairs. They had two rounds of squabs. I had been letting the male out for a while the I decided to let the female out with him. She never returned. She didn't go back to her original loft. I don't know what happened to her.
