Yes! Lovely.:love
Fwiw, one of my 2 original males was given me as a hen and his gender was not obvious until he paired and produced young. He is by far the superior breeder to my view - he is loyal to his mate and shares parenting, protects his fledglings on the floor, etc and all without excessive drama. This is in stark contrast to the obvious male.

As a repeat client you should ask if they have a bulk discount on testing?
or like the raw dog food I buy - purchase 10 get one free.:D

Lol!

I think I'll just get the silver one done. She's supposed to be a hen but I'm really not sure about that.

So here's a question for you all - if you bought a bird and were guaranteed it was one gender, but then it wasn't, what would do? What is a fair thing to ask of the seller in that case?

I would ask the seller what is his remedy for this issue. I don't know how many can really make that guarantee. If it were local they probably make a substitution..not practical in your case. You paid good money for the pair, if I were the seller I'd offer to refund you half the price.

edit added Just curious, would you accept that as fair?:D

I would :) But if she is actually a cock it leaves me in the predicament of having no hens. Well, Twisty might be a hen, but I don't think she'll be breeding.

@Pyxis if you bought a pair specifically for breeding and you got 2 hens or 2 cocks it would only be fair of the person you bought them from to offer you a refund for one or an exchange. Especially as you paid good money for them. They guy that boomer came from is a very experienced fancier, through generations not just years, so mistakes can be made. I'd like to think that the person you bought these from would help you if there was to be a mistake.

I would then try to purchase 2 proven hens. Ones that have raised young already. Seller might be willing to part with a few that no longer fit his breeding plans. Unlike those who will be flying birds, you don't need to get young birds.

I will get the DNA testing done, and then see if I can find someone selling hens if it does turn out I have two cocks.

Where is the most cost effective place to get this done?

It would depend on how much I spent on the pair.
