Pigeon Talk

I read somewhere that the cocks mature slower than the hens so maybe he's just not ready yet?:idunno It sounds like eventually they'll get it right. Have they been feeding each other or otherwise courting?

Not yet that I've seen. Maybe he does just need a little longer to get there.

wow! Beautiful! did you show with them?

Thanks! Didn't show them because they can't really be shown - they're not an accepted breed. Anyone calling theirs show quality is making it up, because there's no accepted standard and therefore nothing to judge them against yet.

I thought there was a standard in some country.

There is a Dutch breed standard. Chances are we'll use that standard or an adapted version of that standard here in the US, but as it stands I'm not sure there's even an agreed upon proposed standard here yet. One of the reasons I got out of the breed; no one could agree and the breed club was a mess.

I'm thinking about safely integrating fledglings into a loft with several aggressive cocks, at least one of whom is claiming part of the floor as his own. I really think I should keep them separate until they're 5 -6 weeks old, probably caging them except when I can supervise.
@WVduckchick have you considered making a section for the youngsters, since you will have quite a few? Perhaps a 4x6 area with some perches? I wish I had the space you have to work with!:)

Yea I’m kinda wishing I hadn’t taken down the divider between the two areas, after Chance being attacked yesterday. Bugsy integrated so easily, I was hoping this would be smooth, but should have been better prepared.

I could build a divider, a quarter of the current space, for youngsters. That would be pretty easy. Thanks for the thought! New weekend project. :D

Yesterday, I noticed Brick was coming out on the “door” of the nest box they are in. Brewer is a little more timid. I was thinking I should close the door for a bit. They are eating on their own now, but could still be fed thru the bars, if the parents wanted to.

I added a roost branch right up in front of my camera. They like it, and it’s cool to watch them up so close, without them knowing I’m watching. :D

At least you are prepared with nest box fronts.:thumbsup I would close them in when you're not around. Put mom or dad in once a day to feed them? ... if that's even necessary with them eating on ther own.:)

Cool pics! How do you use the wise cams without wifi?

I believe the cameras only work with wifi. The camera has to be attached to your home wifi, but you can still view remotely on iPhone or Android without being on wifi, from anywhere.
