Pigeon Talk

Dazzle and Dipsy
Not sure what that bump is on one’s head. Didn’t notice it until I looked at the pic, now momma is back on them.

Brick and Brewer got a little flight practice yesterday. They still won’t free fly, but my dogs make them nervous, I think. They will fly from my hand to the table, a good 4-5 feet.

And the ducklings, just because it’s so cute lol

I have a question, though. In good news, I put some hay in with the pigeons and the cream yellow bar hen is building a nest :D But so far it's not a really good nest, lol. Will she shore it up as she gets closer to laying? Or should I add some more hay myself?
My pair built a pretty bad nest at first but one day when they were off it I made a base for it out of some dry grass and that seemed to get them going. Since then they added pine needles and leaves on their own and filled the bowl.

Horrible! :hugs

Any progress?
I think with chickens, folks just crumble a tums on top of some food and let them eat it.
So I added some tums to the food, grit, and I dissolved some in water. I've been giving it warm baths, which it actually floats like a duck on! But this morning, shes still acting like she did yesterday, but I can't feel the egg. I've looked everywhere in the cage, but still can't find it. She still acts like she's egg bound, but I'm not sure. Any ideas what happened?

Maybe it was just "constipated"? Did you see a big pile of poop anywhere?

Try searching youtube… I remember seeing a video of someone helping a parakeet or dove or maybe even a pigeon expel a stuck egg. I know there are some videos on chickens, but I think a smaller bird would be a better comparison.

She is building it in the bowl at least, lol. But she's just brought a couple pieces of hay in and a chicken feather and that's it, so it's still pretty bare.

I think in THE WILD like on top of concrete overpass wall, Pigeons only place limited amount of nesting type materials. Just enough to prevent eggs from rolling away.:idunno I would line the nest bowls of my pigies with fine hay. I think they :love me........:gig

If you knew it was the first egg ... which you don't... you could hold it indoors til the second one is laid, then return it so it doesn't freeze. Depends on how cold it is there. I think that's what sour did with his shot glasses in the bedroom.:D
 There would be only one egg, ,and 3 glasses.
What were the other 2 for:idunno:old

No, it's still pooping, but it's small and watery. But at least it isn't totally blocked. I did watch some you tube videos, and the surgery is something that I don't feel comfortable doing. Is there something else you were talking about?
