I'm in the south, and it is awful! But it isn't to hot today. I think it's getting to 95, and sooo humid.I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow if it cools down a bit. Don't feel like standing out there too long in this hot humid weather ( I don't know how the people in the south deal with this)
That's what I'm planning to do. I'm going to make a 4x8x6 aviary and attach it somehow because disregarding this falcon attack they have really only three or four months of the whole year where they can fly without them instantly getting attacked by a Cooper's. Hopefully when I have more birds to fly it will be better but at the same time the more of them that there are the more they want to roam in the air which is perfectly fine but it just puts them at an even bigger risk. Haven't given up yet but my long-term plan is by the end of the summer if my losses are still high is to just call it quits, I don't want to keep breeding and flying birds just to feed local hawks. If it comes to that then my lazier older birds that do alright in confinement will have to live full-time in the aviary and loft.
You really want them to get up in the air IMO. because they can get UP faster than hawks, but hawks can go DOWN faster then them. So it's when they get pinned close to the ground when it is game over. A hawk chasing a bird high up over the trees doesn't normally stand a chance. When they come to land, that could be a prime attack time though.
not very far south then! Im in Southern LA and our heat index yest was 108* actual temps were 99*, we were so grateful when the afternoon shower clouds sprang up and dropped the temps a little. The big oak in my yard fell last wk and the quail cages are getting alot more sunlight than ever before so i think ima have to set up fans this year for the first time ever in 5 yrs with poultry. Havent had a heat loss and dont want to now, theyve always had adequate shade and water to deal with our heat. Then the humidity? Id dry up and whither away like a fish outa water if i went to a desert climate!

we did pass 100 a few days ago. We have had lots of rain recently, so it's all the humidity which is awful.

no worries i chose to stay cuz i can deal w this Waaaaay better than the snow! Idk how yall deal w that! Ive told my DH forget poultry if we move north i wont leave the inside the house for all those Months!
