Pigeon Talk

Well today's been a bit hit and miss! I went to release the stray first thing this morning. It has a 200 something mile journey home. Ant way, it promptly landed on my loft and tried to get back in! It just didn't want to go! So I put it back in the cage in the garage and messaged the bloke. He said she wasn't ready to return yet but if I wanted to keep her I can! :ya I did say that I will fly her with mine on Sunday and if she stays it's for keeps but if she goes I hope she will make it safely back. Then about lunchtime my son phones me to say one of the youngsters has been scalped and is covered in blood. He caught it and put it in a carrier for me to clean up and sort out when I get back. There is two suspects who did it. Any I get home clean up the littley and it's not so bad just alot of blood. I look in the loft at the same time as #67 had the other youngster pinned in the corner pecking it. #67 is a lone male, a bit of a pain but a good flyer. He was also the one that had the two strays I had pinned down. I removed him and put the new one in there and it had been calm, no chasing or hassles at all. So #67 is in pigeon jail for a while now till he calms down and chills out a bit!

I saw Rosie briefly do a little courting behavior toward Olive. She lowered her head a bit and did some muffled burbling coos and followed her. It looked like what a male would so but really toned down and quiet. Olive does the same thing to me if I've been away for a few hours... Though if Rosie is aactually a cock her name is a bit silly.
Nice picture! Have you felt between her pelvic bones? If it's wide than it's a female if it's narrow it's male. It's easier to compare with another but you have olive. It the gap is the same definately female.

Sorry about your squeaker, I bet he'll be fine with your care though. There is that brief period when they first hit the floor, but can't fly well enough to get themselves out of danger to a perch or somewhere safe. I get so worried! I even resort to caging them for a week or so except when I am right there to protect them.

Is that stray inside your loft now? ...paired up?

Yes, she's quite happy in the loft! I would love her to get paired up with prince. He is very calm.

You got another pigeon it looks like! If it stays on sunday, will you phone the previous owner and get some more info on the bird?

Sorry about the little guy! He will be fine in your care in sure.
Well, my tumblers are loose in my garage. I must have forgotten to latch their cage. Gotta go find my net, I guess.
better hurry if you have anything that you done want to get dirty!

It feels the same just bonier.
She's doing great today. With Olive with her she is really adopting Olive's calm temperament. She's coming up to me and not afraid at all. Olive took a bath and Rosie got a shower sitting next to her but was too unsure to get in afterwards. Maybe next time.
