Pigeon Talk

So there was another 'unauthorized incubation' in Dragon Loft. The pair of blue bars has produced several clutches of young blue bars as expected. In this recent hatch one was not getting fed and I brought it inside for hand feeding. As the feathers come in I'm starting to think it's a barless!?! [example image of barless below]

Could be, since barless is recessive :) Both parents must each be carrying a copy.

Huh? That's exciting! ccuk got one also. Now, you know you have to breed it! :p

Serin....how is the parrot?

He's doing pretty good and taking my homemade blended baby bird formula (pellets, nuts, fruit and veggies blended to liquid) from a syringe, if not super eagerly. I have to pry his beak open but then he swallows it down well. Eats a tiny bit of millet seeds on his own too. He is very affectionate!

Here he's wet. He got food all over his face so I bathed him and then we went outside in the sun to dry off.

And Rowan is getting better at nest building. After he destroyed the cage papers and turned the cage into a disaster area I've had to start taping them down and giving him tobs of shredded paper bags to use instead. Without fail he drops them on top of her and buries her underneath them. But she doesn't mind. She just picks them off her back and arranges them around her.

Aww he's at least trying! He's like most people...how do you know what to do until you've done it?

Serin....
Next time you stroll in the area where you found,,,,,,

Take a camera, and take some pix of the nesting arrangement you mentioned. (huge) . It would be interesting to see, that is if possible to photograph it from where you would be walking.

I went back today (and fortunately no more fallen babies.) And I tried. But the nests are just too high, and in the shade under the bridge (the skyway bridge is very, very tall), the photos didn't come out at all. I'd need more than the little camera on my phone to get good photos. I counted at least 28 large nests made of sticks... some look about 8 feet around. With two to eight parrots going in and out of each nest. A group of them flew down to a garden where there were some bird feeders, and there must have been 60 of them on the ground eating seeds. But they're shy, and fly away before I can get close enough to photograph.
