Pipd's Peeps 2014!

I used to read with the chicks on my shoulders, but now their too old for that........
I still can't believe that my chicks are almost 5 weeks old and living outside now. My Black sex link is one of the sweetest.
She always pecks my earring when she is on my shoulder..........

The smaller one is Poppy, because she 'pops'--she's always hopping and flying around with the others! :) The bigger one is Violet, because, well, I wanted another flower name to go with Poppy. And I've always liked the name Violet.

So Poppy on the left, Violet on the right:

And yeah, I know Violet isn't violet (or blue in any way), but that's okay with me. :D

Chickenfan, yeah! :rant But Mabel's behaving now, fortunately! Poppy and Violet were sooo happy to be with the other chicks tonight, too! :love Their first couple nights here, they tried to sleep scrunched up against the wire between them and the other chicks, poor babies! Now they're all cuddled up with the others. :love They're all such darlings!

Lightchick, that's so sweet! :love Just be careful about the earrings! One of my older hens, Freema, pulled one of my mom's earrings out of her ear and ate it just in the past week! Needless to say, mom doesn't want the earring back. :sick

Well, my day started out pretty lousy, mostly because I found nothing but feathers left in the pen that was temporarily the home of my Cochin bantam boy, Po. :( But life goes on, and in the spirit of keeping on topic with the thread, here are the babies at two weeks old!

Elda:

Georgie:

Kit-kit:

Louise (augh, she blinked!) :

1000

Mabel:

1000

And the Legbars, about 3 weeks old. Poppy:

1000

And Violet, on the right, who was seeking moral support from Elda.

Elda's sweet face :love

1000

Kit-kit says me, too!

1000

Georgie trying out her wings (with Kit-kit in the background, because Elda was on my arm getting ready for takeoff) :

1000

"Who, me?" :love Elda has some of the best looks sometimes.

1000

Louise, who has grown in a small white patch on her shoulder:

Louise and Mabel coming over:

Mabel on my lap, looking up at the ceiling:

Most of these pictures were taken with Elda getting her cuddle time behind the camera. Oh, right, she was critiquing my pictures as I took them.

1000

The Legbars are still staying at the back of the brooder when I have it opened up for play time. :/ But they'll warm up to me eventually, I'm sure.

Poppy again, lounging:

Ohhh my! I am so sorry!

I definitely know how that feels, it's very hard to cope with.
But at least you have your babies. And they are looking great! Getting so big!!

:hugs Yeah, and I was getting really attached to him. :( But yeah, the babies help keep my mind off of that. They sure are getting BIG!

I didn't get a lot of pictures today, but the babies had plenty of romp time. I started out sitting outside the fence to see if Poppy and Violet would come out with the others. They did!! :weee And then when I moved into the fence, they didn't flee to the back of the brooder like they usually do! They still don't like me getting near them, but they're at least getting more comfortable. :)

When I did get out the camera, Elda really stole the show. She hopped right into my lap for cuddles. :love

1000

I picked her up and she zeroed right in on my teeth.

1000

She was looking up at me. :love

1000

It made for some funny-looking expressions.

1000

Then Kit-kit joined us. :love I LOVE these Dorkings! :love

1000

Needless to say, at this point, I set aside the camera. I was much too busy squeeing in delight at how precious these two are! :love

We may have to rehome our biddies. The hot water pipes in the foundation are leaking, and just t fix it will cost several thousand dollars. And where we are, financially, we have been having it hard enough.

So I definitely know how you feel.

Life can be cruel, sometimes.

But, that aside, the babies are just looking older and older by the day! They look great, too!

And yes, they are getting so big! I don't remember last year's babies growing so fast! But, then again, last year's babies were light Mediterranean breeds (with a couple exceptions), and these babies are hefty European breeds, so maybe that's the difference. :)

Elda's still up to her usual shenanigans.

1000

Cuddles :love

1000

Georgie's getting bigger and bigger.

1000

Louise is still a sweetie pie :love

1000

Kit-kit does her own thing.

1000

Mabel... I don't know what she was looking at, but Elda wanted in on it.

1000

Poppy's still bright-eyed!

1000

She's getting braver, too! She nearly came out for play time today!

1000

Violet, meanwhile, is still quite shy. She gave me this grump-face when I interrupted her meal for a picture.

1000

When she's not busy grumpy-grumping at the feeder, she's usually hiding behind the rest of the chicks.

1000

And much later, here's what the babies did at bed time. I think they're done with the EcoGlow, call it a hunch.
