Plastic nesting boxes

I have had chickens for over thirty years. Currently I have a flock of 36 chickens and decided it was time to get new nesting boxes. I got 8 separate plastic nesting boxes with perches and they look great. There is only one problem--the bottom is slippery, the nesting material gets kicked out easily, and I have noticed broken eggs. Is there something I can line the bottom of the boxes with to solve this problem?

Have you tried folding up some feed bags to the size of the box and putting that at the bottom? I don't know if they'll stay put if it's that slippery but worth a try, and free to boot.

For the nest boxes, how about non slip mat like the stuff advertised for car dashboards?

I've never used the plastic nest boxes but it seems I've read of people using old carpet squares to line them with...maybe that's a possibility?

Or... I don’t know why I didn’t mention this as I use it in my new roll out nest boxes... fake grass! Must say I’m getting spotlessly clean eggs now.

I have the plastic nest boxes, also. I put in a square of fake grass and then straw this winter. Clean eggs until mud season began!

We have plastic nest boxes and I have not had any issues with nesting material or eggs getting kicked out but that is probably because my gals spend more time broody than they do actually laying eggs
