One of my chickens is struggling to breath and she has a resatory illness. We are giving her tyalon medication, but don't know what else to do. We have also separated her from the rest if the flock. Is there anything else we can do?

Respiratory diseases can be hard on chickens, and can be caused by viruses, bacteria, or by fungi from mold. Most disease symptoms can last weeks, and complications or secondary infections may occur. Tylan is one of the few drugs that will be useful, but only affects a bacterial illness. Are you using Tylan 50 injectable, and how much are you giving? Your other chickens may get it, or may have been exposed the same time as she did. Make sure that she is taking water well, keep her from chilling, but not too hot, and make sure her nostrils are clear. Can you tell us what symptoms she has? Gasping, wheezing, rattly breathing, nasal drainage, eye drainage or crusting, and a swollen eyelid or face may be possible symptoms.

She is one year four months. I think tylan 200 and we just gave her the medicine yesterday because that's when we first saw the sickness. Her mouth look really swollen and there is a big black line running down her throat. Haven't checked if there is foam in her mouth, but I don't remember any. She just can't breath and she's weazing a lot. Thank you so much.

Another one is sick now with the same thing. Is there anything else I can do besides to give medication? Please help.
