Police Seize Chicks Without A Warrant! ****PHOTOS ADDED****

The Police did not decide to take her poultry- don't blame them. The Judge signed the order, the police don't make these decisions, they simply enforce what they are told to do.

As a disclaimer, I am married to a police officer. He doesn't decide to take someones animals or children, but if told by a judge to do it, he does it, or he loses his job. The definition of law enforcement is enforcement, not decision.

I agree with you police do just follow orders but there was no warren and no court order so the town had no right to do it. The warrens are to keep this from happening and the town wrong.

The chief (nor any officer) should not use his own body to force someone out of the doorway of their coop to illegally seize property either. If Kathy made the slightest effort to resist they would have slapped the cuffs on her and lodged her under arrest.

FYI- I was a sheriff deputy for 20 years. The actions I saw at Kathy's home was not only WRONG, it was an embarrasment (and potentially dangerous) to anyone who is, has been and will be in Law Enforcement. I suspect the citizens of Barre Town will pay via their taxes sooner or later on a law suit.

Keep in mind this goes well beyond chickens. It is much bigger. If the Town and the police use the excuse that this is a civil matter and thus they don't need a warrant to invade and seize your property then we have really lost our freedoms. This is not the America I want to be a part of. Can you imagine if that raid was deemed lawful?

It is hard enough being a 'good cop' and I think those of you who know or have family in law enforcement understand that. Barre Town has plenty of real crime. I encourage you to read the comments posted at the bottom of each newspaper article. It does not cost anyone any money to add your own either!

Please do not let this go.

OMG. What a load of manure! WHY oh WHY can't people just let others live as they see fit? No one was being hurt and the chickens were not being mistreated. PEOPLE SUCK.

The police acted stupidly, breaking the law is breaking the law no matter who told you to do so. There is no doubt these policeman knew they were wrong, if they did not they have no business with a badge.

These officers were circumventing a judge NOT enforcing a judges orders, they deserve jail time themselves, at the very least fines.

Let's see, how about if instead of chickens, officials see that you have one too many dogs, and orders the police onto your property to seize one.

How about if you have been ill, and not moved the boat from your driveway to a place where it is allowed to be stored, so they come and seize that. How about if you were cooking on your grill during a no-burn day, so the next day they came and seized your grill?

The town officials need jail time and the police should be severely sanctioned, possibly even losing their licenses.
