Polish Turken?

I would really LOVE to see a polish turken! I bought some mixed turkens at an auction last year, and I'm hoping to find some mixed turken eggs on here in the near future. Turken lovers UNITE!!

Yes it is possible to get polish turken. I've done this many years ago.. do it just like monkey says, cross, then keep the best one and breed it back to a pure polish each generation until you are happy with the type and crest size.. The crest is not reduced or anything from the naked neck gene.

In fact, the naked neck tends to make the crest look bigger or rounder due to the contrast with the naked neck, compared to a crest on a fully feathered neck. I got a lot of positive comments of visitors regarding crests on naked necked birds, they liked the "rounder" look.

Beards/muffs otoh, IS affected by the naked neck gene.. I don't understand the whys but the degree of how the beard/muff is affected varies from bird to bird. Like, some birds will not have the beard part but they will have the muffs- looks awful lot like the big Victorian sideburns.. quite cute I thought. Others will still have the beard but "less of it".. kind of looks like Amish or a full beard on a man who shaved off the moustache and on the front of chin below the mouth, leaving just a fringe around his jaw.. Others have basically patches, two on each side of the face and two patches on the neck.. Etc. I would like to see a cross/mix of a turken with something hugely bearded like those on Faverolles though!

BTW I've crossed with Araucanas too.. it had weird effect on tufts.. on most birds the tufts had fewer feathers and dangled loosely instead of sticking straight out sideways. Looked more like dangling earrings.

Kev, I have been thinking about adding the NN gene to my mixed, mostly muffed, flock. Thanks for the info. Are these bird with the NN gene and muffs nice looking or do they look more like a cat got to them lol?

im working on it i havent had successful hatches so i put them under a broody and all is good so far. also theyre could be some frizzle turken polishes. imagine that!+

This sure was NOT planned, BUT my "Turken" got out and had a little meeting with a Mille Fluer D'Uccle and when my MF eggs hatched the other day this little guy showed up.
He is so weird that he is cute. No telling what he will turn out, he is the same color as the others but obviously did not have the same Daddy!

Does it feel like a bantam? Does it have feathered feet? Cheeks don't look too chubbed for muffs. Will be interesting to watch it grow.
