This started out to be a rodent free feeder (had a bad mouse problem with my old feeder). After first installing it, the chickens made sure it was always full of shavings. The solution... raise it. The problem with that... they couldn't reach it. Solution... build stool all the way around it. They have no problem eating from it. The stool sits about 18" above the dirt floor (about 10" above the shavings). The rim of the feeder is about 8" above the stool. It can easily be modified to hold about 65# of feed... see my page for details on building. Yes, that's two birds in the same nest. This one is from the "coop cam" of them feeding.
