Hi all,

I got this chicken from a friend, long story short...it’s mother is a huge red chook, I want to say bigger than a normal Rhode Island Red but I don’t know what she is, she was a shocking mother and this was one of the chicks she didn’t kill.
My question is, I’ve had her (I hope her) since she hatched, but my partner and I are at odds as to what sex she is?
she is 10 weeks old, can anyone shed some light on this for me please?

thanks in advance for your help

Looks like a cockerel. Like previous replies have said. But as for the breed he looks like a white leghorn x rhode island red. He may not be exactly that, but from what I’ve seen he’s pretty darn spot on.

Thanks for all of your help! I suppose I’ve been in denial about her being a he. We live in town and can’t keep roosters.
I’ve looked into rooster no crow collars but I’m a little on the fence, I’m not interested in anything cruel, what’s your opinion on no crow collars?

They work by basically choking the rooster when he tries to crow. I don't think they are a good option. If you can't keep him, it's a good idea to start looking for a new home for him.

We have a forum for that, here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/animals-in-need-of-free-re-homing.16182/

And a good thread dedicated to this topic, here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/the-rehoming-a-rooster-thread.1405427/
