I'm now looking through this thread for ideas for my ducklings home. They are in the garage and are 2 weeks old and boy they are messy but sweet! So anyone got any advice for a new duck owner? Also we have a 1/2 acre pond in a fenced area is it safe for them to swim in this when they are adults?

My babies were labeled as Ancona but I'm pretty sure they are Pekin because they are all white or yellow actually lol

well pekins are rathe fatter looking only because there a little shorter! there head can be wider too!

Who did you get your babies from? when your ducks are fully grown then they'll be fine in the pool on their own as long as they can get out (make sure they aren't blocked in by anything)
Even though your babies are white (or yellow ) they may actually still be ancona. the breeder I got my two from has a baby that was all yellow and got colorful feathers when it got older.... also if your baby is all yellow, it could be a lavender, blue, or splash which are all really light as babies, yours would just be extra light. Do your ducks have splotchy feet? Also, do you have pictures?

I'm trying to post pictures and just can't seem to figure it out. I got mine from a rural king they came from cackle hatchery. I want to let them have my pond to swim but what lives in there is unknown. Fish and painted turtles and lots of frogs. The is also a ton of lily pads. no snappers though. Is this safe for them

ahh. so that sounds similar to the traits anconas and magpies share, except this is more about size differences, not coloring.
