The other evening Perfectly_Polish and I were posting smiley faces
in order to maintain our # of posts positions versus each other.
It was meant to be harmless fun between two friends.

This was not cool and I apologise.

I'm posting this so no one else sees this as fun and continues it. The
top posters on this board have contributed a LOT to this forum and
their post counts reflect that. None of them have written that many posts
in order to race anyone else.

"Post Count Padding" on many forums is considered poor etiquette, spamming,
and can result in bannings.

As a guilty party I just wanted to say this.

* You're a bad, bad boy, PC!! I can't count at least a fifth of mine due to accidental or otherwise mysterious and scandulous double-posts, and I'm not even really "racing" anybody, either. Point is, if we took of all the blunders and blunderers, we'd probably have to wipe out quite a chunk of members and postings, ya think??

Well, there is a difference and a question of intent too.

If you look at Wildsky, who has a ton of posts, a lot are fun but none are meant
to pad her post count. Many of my posts are nothing short of stupid but again,
aren't meant to jack up my post count. How about SpeckledHen? Most of hers
actually have a point. Then we have moderators with lower counts because they
spend most of their time on BYC patrolling for stupid stuff and keeping the peace.

I just wanna make sure that none of the younger members look at what me and
PP were doing the other night and think it's ok. That's all. It's a slippery slope when
people put too much emphasis on post counts.

Feeling guilty, old friend? No need.

Most of us wont hold it against you. Chances are good the majority wont even notice among the many,

"I'm disgusted!"
"Aggggh, dogs!"
"organic feed or not?
"What age/sex are these chicks?"
"Whats the deal?"
and "Wheeee, chickens!" posts.

Besides, not every post you make must be sage advice, timely commentary or dripping with earnest intent. Those things are well and good, but you are allowed a little frivolity among this group.

Amend your ways from here out and it's all good. You are forgiven

Is posting smilies to pad your post totals kind of like BYC's version of the steroid scandal?

PC, I really feel like us non-juicing posters are hurt by you "cheaters"

I just want to make it clear that this does not in any way include active
participation in threads like Davaroos "The Horrors of Off Topic Posts".
Those are meant to be fun and the more posts the better thay usually are,
just like the games threads.

Maybe I'm missing the point about the post counts, but why is it a good thing to have an enormous number of posts? I am all for fun & frivolity as well as the next guy or gal, and see nothing wrong with posting snappy witty comebacks (though I may have trouble actually coming UP with any!). What I don't understand is why it is such a badge of honor to have beaucoup posts following your name if you have nothing to say. (and no, that is NOT directed at PC or anyone else in particular!!!) I know there are different ones such as SpeckledHen, MissPrissy, Terrielacy, and many others who post frequently and DO have valuable advice for those who come on with ?? about anything and everything, and their post counts are in the stratosphere. As for posting something for the SOLE purpose of adding to the "count", why bother?

P.S. LOLOL @ bluey!

Nope. You are not missing the point at all. It's exactly that.

Just to be clear what we were doing was posting smiley faces in order to
race each other. It was between the two of us and harmless fun. The trouble
is that others soon followed and eventually a mod had to step in.
