Post office lost chicks????

So happy to hear they arrived safe, and hope your sultan just needs a little time.

I had one bratty little silkie that tried to overheat herself by running under the lamp constantly, but raising it and using forced frequent dips in the SavAChick water let her recover. Wish I'd had an Ecoglow!

We just gave up and bought a coop as we're strapped for time with other hard projects, so I am duly impressed at your solo effort. Please do share the pics when you get a chance! Thanks for giving us the update. You know we BYCers worry over others' chicks!

Happy to here good results I orderd 6 chicks all arrived well but sadly 1 of my blue silkies died at 1 week

Of course all was ready when we got home. Everyone settled in fine except my little sultan. Her bottom had some eggshell stuck to it, blocking her like pasty bum would. I am hoping she makes it but she isn't active like all the others. We dipped her beak in water several times. She seems passive. We'll hope for the best.
take a warm washcloth and try soaking off the stuck eggshell. If that absolutely won't work, take some fingernail scissors and VERY carefully try snipping the feathers. just be sure that you don't nick the skin underneath.

To prevent pasty butt, give them plain old apple cider vinegar in their water. I put 3-4 glugs in a 5 gallon bucket, but I get mine 100+ at a time. I have had to remove pasty butts about 20-30 at a time and it is no fun. After the ACV, haven't had that problem since. Some say to use Braggs ACV, but I have just used Heintz.

Hmm, maybe I should keep adding the acv to their water. Everyone did well today. Wee sultan holding her own. The others pick a bit at her bottom, they notice something there, interesting as long as it doesn't turn harmful.

Boy, worked most of the day on the coop, a couple of interuptions to cook food for the troops. Annoying, that need to eat and feed others! It took the bulk of the day to figure out how I wanted to frame a little awning style window, a little used sash I got at the habitat restore. Lots of time spent thinking things through on this build. Got the window framed, built the insect screen, hinged the window and one coat of paint on it. Then used a solid colored stain to coat the shed exterior. Bluish PURPLE! Now if I can only get the coop built before I have to head back to work Monday....dream on! And perhaps tomorrow I'll get better pictures of my girls.

First day I gave them Save A Chick, then have given them ACV in their water every single day..Never had any pasty butts or health issues (knock on wood)they will be 12 weeks old on Monday.

Have fun with them, they grow up to fast:)
