My Silver Pheonix hens are wild, wont let you get near them and scream like bloody murder when you pick them up. I wouldnt keep them if you are looking for a friendly bird, but the males are very pretty!

Thanks, we aren't wanting pets, just like to keep different breeds to keep it interesting. We plan on getting around six (Roo & 5 hens) and they'll have a coop around 10' by 12' with a covered porch type run about the same size and access to a pen of around 120' by 100'.

I've never had Phoenix, just wondered if they required any special roost, feed or such.

yours are the exzception to the rule then, all mine, and all I have ever been around are very gentle and friendly, actually never seen a wild acting one before. I have some that will fly onto my shoulder when I go in to feed them

I agree, I never try to make pets of my birds so they wont just let me just reach down and pick them up without running away, but they are just like the rest of the breeds I have as far as being comfortable with me being around them and in the pen with them, they just dont want to be handled. And like Aubrey said happened with his birds, a couple days ago that grey pullet I posted flew up to me when I went in to feed them, she went up on the ledge beside me though, not on my shoulder. But all of them arent crazy spastic like ChickieBooBoo said.

Thanks Chris, you thought right lol. Can never see too many longtail phoenix and that one does have a nice tail. I went to a local sale today and a guy has a pair of each of Silvers, Goldens, and BBReds but they were LF and the tails were touching the grown good but not all that really and he had them kinda cramped where they couldnt really show off anyway, so I decided to pass. I bought me a trio of Scovies instead, the big male is going to be our dinner guest for thanksgiving. I'll get an other male for the females later, I only got them becuase the guy wound break the trio up and he was the only one with a big male.
