Post Phoenix Pics Please

Pics
My two phoenix hens are standard, although the vast majority of my birds are bantams. Someday I definitely want some bantam phoenixes! My standards are pretty, though, I really like them.

They're around seven or eight years old now and one of my girls just started getting a longer tail. It looks quite elegant!

Shelley D,

He looks really nice! However, at 9 months of age, his saddle feathers are very short it seems like. Even the Phoenix should have really long feathers at 9 months of age, I would say at LEAST 6 inches long...

Perhaps when you get that measured, it would help you out even MORE in the process of illimination : )

Good luck!

Nevertheless, he's really a beauty!

Hello,

That is not true. Phoenix can't get tails that long unless they have been outcrossed, but still, if they have a higher percentage of "Phoenix" then it won't ever get that long. Records for TRUE Phoenix, non-crosses only max out at about 5ft. Long...

Oh okay. I guess the site was lieing. Oh well. Thanks!

Max,

If you got this info off the McMurray, Cackle or Ideal Hatchery's website or catelog, then yes, its the wrong info. I called each of them to tell them about this but they said they will only take it to the board...Haha

Maxx, It may have been an Onagadori that had a tail that long, but not a Phoenix.

Clint,

Yes, I agree thats a description of an Onagadori but we have none pure blood like that in the U.S. Its just the mis-leading "facts" that hatcheries put out to boost their sales. LOL...that is why there are us...you me and a few others who know more to help differentiate : )
Good call!!!

Nice bird, he looks just like the bird on the home page of the onagadori forum!

Aubrey,

Yes! The one on the Onagadori forum is of Chris's Phoenix. Pretty nice isn't he? ; )

HA!!!!!!!!
Lord no, they are from 2 private breeders from the other forums, Thanks, Like I said, 6 months old taint bad, and lost tons of lenght in this past month due to all the rains. I try extra hard to keep their pens in tip top shape, but you can ask Clint, I bet we are at 8-9 inches for December here already. Made me sick Saturday to be tossing out all that feather when I was cleaning the pens....

Ned and Ted ~14 weeks I think in this photo.

I can't believe I don't have any pictures of my Little Peep. She's the sweetest little thing, she's the only one that will hop up on my arm when I go out to commune with the chickens.
