I've liked him too. Cy sent him out as a bonus freebie. Called him a color cull due to the lack of getting pure black males. So far he's been pretty usefull around here though.
That pic was taken shortly after we got him last fall, he was a little beat up in the feather department, but boy he sure put it on this year.

for your girls to be coming out with color, there has got to be duckwing or something hidden in there somewhere I would think. I bred this boy to all sorts of stuff this year, and most all the solid colors did come out clean on the girls, The boys are look OK little color here and there, but no solid patches
Very interesting. I will post pictures of the offspring to show exactly what I am talking about. I also got another bird from Cy's self-blue's this year, this one is white with the occasional colored saddle. He was the result of a Blue/white to a golden. Cy thought I might like seeing what came from it - Unfortunately only one hatched though. You can tell immediately from his size he isn't a bantam. He isn't quite as big but is close in size to some of my Golden standard cockerels brooded with him. I will put him on a white pullet for fun, then probably try on a colored one later on.
Yep some pics would be good.
And I'm the same way. I like getting color projects. Kinda like Christmas to me on hatch day, looking to see what came out of stuff that you are unsure of genetically speaking
