Post Phoenix Pics Please

dvang

dont have a male bantam yet in black. Had a nice one from the original crossing to get these, but lost him last winter. got a good many chicks coming along off these now though, so hoping to get another. If not I'll just keep breeding them to the blues, dun and lavenders til I get one.

Hey Aubrey, got my first good hatch for this fall today.. I set some of the yard eggs as a test trial.. Got two mottled phoenix roosters.. Both are males. LOL>

Yes it is easier than color to fix. However, these are from my American Longtail project and some of them lay blue eggs which is a characteristic I am breeding for. It is very hard to separate the peacomb gene from the blue egg gene..

Here are a couple pics of the blue cockerel. He is young yet, but color looks fantastic..! Peacombed however, but I don't care too much about that. Most of the hens are straight combed so he will be enough to clean up color..

He is technically an American Longtail.. ( a breed I created here)
They lay blue eggs? Sweeet!!! Been able to add any new blue egg blood into them lately haha.

Yes, they lay blue eggs. They have rumpless auracana in them from about 10 or so years back.... LOL.. Interesting thought though!

Trying to preserve my tails right now..

congrats Amanda,
funny
my first what I'd call big hatch is starting right now. Have had a couple weeks of 15-30's hatching, but have about 150 pipping now
mostly phoenix and ohiki. Few d'anvers in there but not many.

Loving the mottled by the way. got some nice spangled project birds that I plan to put over these blacks so I can get a good start on just mottled next year.

Thanks. and that will get you some nice mottleds.. I will get plenty of spangled from the millie fleur project. Right now, focusing on getting my hatching done so I won't have to hatch next spring.. LOL> I probably will though.. You know how it goes.. Got any pics of your spangled birds? I think spangled and millies are gorgeous..

Standard colors are Silver Duckwing, golden Duckwing, bbred, and white... All other colors are genetically created by breeders. Would love to see pics of this "spangled" hen.. Sounds pretty!
This is just a side note and mostly a technicality until you get very specific about color varieties as to what color varieties are accepted in the APA standard for LF Phoenix. The Silver Ducking pattern (and Golden Duckwing) as exhibited in the Old English and Modern Games is a different color pattern than the Silver or Golden patterns for the Phoenix (Silver Phoenix is the same as for Silver Leghorns). So when you start really selecting for the specifics of color type in Phoenix you need to refer to the color description in the APA SOP for Silver Phoenix and not the Silver Duckwing pattern.
