You're pup is cute.!!!

Do you ever get the your crazy look when you speak to him in sentence's?

Our dog gets frustrated if you just tell him one word, he loves to figure out what you want... I think it keeps him busy. Sit down right now... He is stubborn as me so he hard to train, lol.

Haha! Thanks, he knows "sit" but I mostly say "sit your bum", I also have a hand signal, signals really help with training :)

To train a sit I found that having a bit of treat in my hand and moving it towards their head but above it will make them sit to look up at it. So you say "sit" then raise the treat above them so they sit to look at it, then immediately you reward verbally and physically with pets and give them the treat.

I like to repeat the command in the verbal praise like "good boy sit!! :D" which helps him make sense of when he completes any command you want.

Sitting is perhaps the easiest command for a dog to learn because you don't force them to sit, they do it because they want to look at the treat you're holding above them and after several times (depending on the dog) you could say "sit" and they will sit to get the treat, realizing the two are connected. That's why it's important you reward them right after they sit.

Eventually you work towards no treat just praise once you're sure they understand the command. :)

*edit* I actually taught old my cat to sit using this same method with cat treats :D They eventually also learned how to fetch plastic bottle caps and tiny rawhide bones and she would also "stay" (away from the treat until told to eat it) and "touch it" a fun game where she jumps to tap the treat in my hand then she gets it :)

This is poor Griffin pleading with me with his eyes to kindly remove the kitten from his face! Such a good guy. He's a 4 year old boxer/terrier mix and is so tolerant with our 5 kids and, as you can see here, just about anything else that comes along. And he's a fierce chicken guardian! Love this dog. We also have a grayhound/Shep mix, but she's very camera shy. I'll have to dig for a pic.

good for you. i love knowing that people are great with dogs when i was a kid a kid that looked like 13 was walking his dog and he said sit dog did not sit so he grabed his head and banged it to the road
