I agree. I want atleast 10 acres. Large coops for different breeding chicken groups, maybe some ducks, my horses, dog, ect..
Yep me too. Would really like to employ some permaculture farm principles and make a fully sustainable place to live.
Its nice to see pictures with a chair in the run, my neighbours think I'm mad but I love to sit and watch them
Thanks Jtbass! Will look through the pictures and see if I can find some inspiration haha. I'm not the most building inclined, but I'm sure I could figure something out. I'm one of those people that need a very detailed list of instructions on when it comes to building things.I saw a post somewhere on this thread where the builder made his run by first building it in individual panels and then putting it together....making it portable if necessary. I thought that was a great idea. Then you could put a skirt around it with either 1/4" hardware wire or pavers.![]()

Thats kind of how I built my run. It can be disassembled pretty easily if I had to move it. Framed 6' long wall sections with framing 2"x4" My sections are 6'7" high. We built one with 4"x4" verticals on the outsides for the one with the Door. I have 2 coops attached to this central run. 1 is a small prefab coop bought at Costco. The other is one I designed and built to go with the run.I saw a post somewhere on this thread where the builder made his run by first building it in individual panels and then putting it together....making it portable if necessary. This is a point that I came across and am really glad I did. Since mine is a work in progress....I'm going to change the roost situation around a bit to make it higher than the nesting boxes....Idahodan - forgot to mention a problem I had that you might experience. Your perch is at the same level as the nestboxex. My girls picked the nestboxes to sleep in since the perch on the opposite side was not higher but at the same level as the nestbox ledge. Our coop was custom pre-built and we had no say in its design but you have the option to raise your perch a little higher to discourage nestbox roosting.
