I haven't had chickens since about 1990 so here I go again. I love chickens but the places I lived were not very accommodating. This is the third coop I have built in my lifetime.
I live in Sacramento Ca and I have a half acre. The perimeter of my property is 6' tall Redbrand 4"x6" horse fencing. That should keep most predators out. I still might get a possum or coon once in a while. I know someone is going to say chicken wire is not predator proof but the only time I have ever had depredations is when I left the door of the coop open overnight.

Above is the hopper food box which I will attach to the side of the coop above the wheel. This box should be able to hold about 20 lbs of food at a time.

Above is the front of the coop with a little door. There is a wood floor made of scrap 1X material I had around. The run will be made of four panels of framing and chicken wire and will be attached with hook and eye latches to the front. The run will come apart easily when I want to move the coop to fresh grass. I have already added the roost made from silver maple branches. You can see the shadows of the roost on the floor. The nest boxes are inside the coop and a hopper door can access eggs from the outside.

I bought the 20" wheels online. They are for a deer cart and rated for 600 pounds. The axel is a 3/4" machine bolt through 2" of framing. I epoxied the nuts on the bolts so they might stay put. The 2x4 handle to move the coop is built into the framing and cantilevers to the front of the coop. One old guy like me can move the coop pretty easily while it balances on the wheels. The stick is just to prop the coop temporary while I build it. I am considering polycarbonate roofing for the lid. I already have some polycarbonate on my shed and greenhouse and it's very tough but lightweight stuff. The dark tinted stuff blocks 99% UV and keeps it cool. I am not going to bother with paint. The roofing will keep the whole thing dry and it's off the ground so it won't rot.

'Only in at night,' accounts for about 10 to 18 hours of the day. How people think it's just a small chunk of time just baffles me.

Worth a repeat...

Also worth noting is that they do a vast amount of their daily pooping while confined overnight further aggravating the air quality as the night progresses...

One quick test, if you open up the coop and stick your head in there first thing in the morning and can smell ammonia, you don't have enough ventilation...

It also could be you haven't posted many comments yet. There was a set number before you can post pics. If you haven't yet look at the Learning Center too. The more you talk the more it helps you. Hello too!
