You had not said that in previous posts. You sounded like you were still trying to say they could be in that last post, sorry
I went back and read my post and see where I was unclear, I'm sorry, I was thinking when I said I had read up on it more and had a better understanding that was clear and it wasn't. I also was still asking more question about dun which confused it further but it was interest in the information not that I was debating. My bad! Please excuse me I was not trying to be rude. (I just went back and read my last post and it reads so much worse than intended)I'm sorry. I feel so bad!

Thanks for directing me to the info. on SCNA about pumpkin color. There was some old information there that helped me understand the color better. From what I read it states the pumpkin is passed down like blue. What would that make my cocopop pair? Do you think they look pumpkin or splash pumpkin? I know the question will eventually be answered when I can get some to hatch but I'm excited and wondering if all my babies are going to be splash

Bantam dun wyandottes seem easier to transfer to orp type than an OEGB. They are out there. I got mine from a breeder that sold out up in Maine about 7 years back.

Yeah, that would definitely be a faster way to work back towards the Orp shape- but Wyandottes have yellow skin, that's not something I want to introduce.

OEGB have white... right?

Yes. The only downside is hard feathering and overall type. I think Ideal sells them as 'chocolate' OEGB. I am guessing their type wouldn't be the best anyway

I think the Sussex would be my first choice for Wyandottes but I'm not sure they have cinnamon in bantams?
Is there a common breed that I can find a hen to breed to my Cockerel for you? He's not huge, I think there might be something in my area that is black that would work? I could probably find a bantam black Orp and just ship you the eggs for hatching.

If Ideal had duns, you could have a good chance at white skin. I got 15 buff wyandotte bantams from them last year and all of them have white skin and look like a rose combed buff orp bantam but that is a whole other story...

Do black orpington bantams have black or white legs? That may make a difference in which breed you use to introduce the color.

Hatching from my chocolate Araucana project pen.....first entire batch hatched black chicks! Lol. Way off what I expected. But this second batch hatched 3 chocolates.....that was more like it. Now hoping at least one is a cockerel. These are recessive chocolates, not dun.

These are the first 2. There is another one now too and one that hatched that did not absorb the yolk sack and died.
I will continue to set this spring till I have a good number to work with in the spring.

My bantam Mauve Orpingon went broody & hatched 3 chicks!

Blue split to Chocolate cockerel on the left, Chocolate pullet on the right.

Splash- don't know whether this is a male or female yet. If a boy, he'll be Splash split to Chocolate, if a girl she will be Mauve (Chocolate & Blue), with 2 copies of the Blue gene.

Always right next to momma, who wouldn't hold still for the camera.

They are adorable!

Is the Chocolate that Serama carry that is not Dun/Khaki a simple recessive? It seems to differ from Lavender/Self Blue in that it is sex link.

I read through the closed Coco Pop thread, but that ended in 2011. Any new developments?

Has anyone bred a "Chocolate" Serama to a black bird of another breed to test the color? I would think that would be a simple way to find out if the gene is chocolate or dun. I say another breed because it is my understanding that Serama are very mixed in their genetics and it is rare to have a "pure" colored bird.
