Pullet or Cockerel? Ameraucana.....It's official/Got a new name :)

Just wanted to mention that with my phone those darker areas are coming out even darker. They are a very dark grey blue. If I remember right, parents are from a Black/Blue pen.

I'm happy she's a she though cause I can keep her name Bonnie, after my mom. She asked me the day before she died when I was going to have a Bonnie chicken and I told her when I got a special one. This one hatched 2 days after she died.

I got a Black roo from sunnydawn when I was almost sure she was a pullet, so glad I didn't end up with 2 roos yet again. Happens with too many around here. LOL

So now to get her and Clyde to play nice. The reason I was questioning the sex the most is because they attack eachother no matter what I tried and I've had them separate again, but she is in with my Marans cockerels (hatchmates) and I want pure bred chicks. Back to the caging next to eachother then I guess. I hope they start getting along soon.

Then again. The Clyde was because my mom once dated one. She dumped him and told him to go out with her sister. He ended up being one of my first uncles. Hope I don't have to go find Clyde a Patricia.

awwwwwwwwwwwww Jean..... tell me Noooo

BTW!!!! I think the 3 I hatched out from your eggs are soooo pretty and I do think I got a pair out of them. One has a distinct tail, the other doesn't and the wing feathers are different. One just screams roo to me! The black one isn't turning silver, butit's soo pretty I hope it's a pullet so I can keep it. Even my daughter who HATES my chickens, saw them today and thought they were beautiful.

I guess you're just going to have to wait and see whether it crows or lays an egg, LOL!

I still say pullet though if it's six months old. If it were younger I'd say possible rooster, but by six months old I would think it would be obviously a rooster. I can sex mine 100% by four months old. Anyway, you should get an egg or a crow by New Years!

Please let us all know when you find out for sure!!!

At 4 months I was sure a pullet, but at this point I just need a couple of blue hens and I'll be happy.

I need to get some new pics of my lavs from pip&peeps. I'm pretty sure they are going to be a pair. One has a distinct tail now and the other is just getting a nub, so I'm hoping. The odd one from that batch is one of my favorite babies. Go figure. I'd take 10 like this one. It's looking more pullet to me too.

I can look on this forum and although most times I don't post to them, but I'm almost always right about sex.

Feel so dumb where this one is concerned. My husband is probably looking down at me an laughing his butt off. LOL

OK just an update.

Bonnie? has alway been top of the pecking order in this group of 7. The pullets give her lots of room and the 2 roos hang out with her.

Let them out to run the yard today and noticed she was on my Games like a mad bird. Whenever the hens came up to eat treats she was chasing them off and had no mercy. Had to grab her up and put her back, so the other birds could relax. She's been out with these hens often and has always been a little pushy, but today they were supposed to stay away.

I'm really thinking not a roo. At this age a roo would have other motives, wouldn't he?

I don't know. Never had a roo that acted like this, so I may just have been lucky until now.

An egg or a crow would be so welcome right now! Dang bird!
