Pullet or Cockerel? Ameraucana.....It's official/Got a new name :)

He is pretty and today I see some real saddle feathers coming in so he'll be beautiful.

I do need more girls now though and fast.

At least since he's been with all the other juvenile roos, I should be able to build a bachelors coop and some breeding pens.

Makes it easier.

Wish my black AM roo would be nice to all of them. I'm thinking he may have to be rehomed. Trying to figure him out though.

OK so who has some new girls for me?

Gotta have a great name for this one though, because it was our first hatch I did with my husband when we started our flock back up.

We babied this one a lot since he was sooooo cute when he was a first hatched.

That has got to be the latest maturing rooster ever...

Congrats to all the roo-guessers.

And I sympatize with all of the pullet-guessers. Who would of thought, huh? MOST roosters are crowing and have saddle feathers by six months old!

I know I've never seen him crow and the saddle feathers are just starting to push through.

He's going to be a gorgeous roo I think.

He doesn't like being picked up much, but he's really good when I can catch him.

Weird thing is, he chases off some of the hens that he wasn't raised with. Everyone is running in the backyard right now and although, there are no more fights (have my more agressive roos penned) they seem to stick to their own little groups.

Bonnie and Clyde hate eachother though. Clyde is a more dominate roo and Bonnie (tell the name change) tries to run everything, so I was thinking he was a pullet and just bossy like the Dom I used to have.

Good thing is I don't really like my blue roo as much, so my neighbor had been asking if I wanted ot rehome him, so she's getting a new roo tomorrow. Bonnie stays no matter what.

Was going to add that although this is the first time I witnessed the crow, I have 9 roos, so I must have just missed it and Bonnie must be my 5 am crower. Never crows when the Marans roo do or my big BLP roo, so I'm a little shocked that since he is so pushy there wasn't a crow till this morning.

Did get complements on him as a roo though, so better a roo than an off colored pullet. Gotta look towards the bright side.

This one was a really late bloomer. I've had those that keep me guessing way after I've figured out everyone else. Some are just like that, especially the Ameraucanas and EEs.

Wow, late bloomer! So, I have a situation as well w/ some chicks I hatched. They are from my barred rock hen and minorca/leghorn (?) roo. The lighter chick appears to be a cockerel based on the size of his comb and such but if the daddy is a minorca I figure this chick could be taking on the typical HUGE head gear that minorcas get. I try not to compare it the other chick because it could be taking after the barred rock comb which is a lot smaller. The darker chick has more defined pointy hackle feathers then the one w/ the huge head gear. They are roughly the same size even though the light one looks bigger. The light one made what sounded like the egg song when I was introducing it to the rest of my chickens....but then my roo does the same thing some times. The light one also had the typical wing feather growth at 2 days so I thought it was a pullet but then the head gear started. What do you all think? Let the guessing begin!

These chicks are 8 weeks old.
