Purchasing chicks from different sources

That's a good point. Some jurisdictions have a rule about the minimum number of chicks you can buy. Tractor Supply has that as a rule, though not all employees follow that.

Easter is a big reason for that rule. It is an attempt to stop people from purchasing one or two chicks as a gift for a kid that cannot keep them, cannot manage them, and the chicks will die, be mistreated, abandoned, or dropped off at an animal shelter.

One way to get around that is to find a buddy to split a purchase with you.

You say you want 8-10 chicks, but my tractor supply sells them at a minimum of 6. Same thing at Stockdales. Will the other provider sell you just 2-4 chicks? Calling both places might help.
The Tractor Supply near me has a 4 chick min. I purchased chicks from my local feed and grain store which had a 4 min. also however they had pullets. I was very disappointed in TSC as they had several breeds but they were all straight run. I did not want any roosters.
