I think it's okay now that I've moved the middle egg out from directly under the fan. The temps in the incubator have evened out and there don't seem to be any hot or cold spots :)

Quick update. For the first week, I was advised to weigh the eggs every day or every other day to try to pin humidity down. The advice was to start dry, then add water if necessary. These eggs are so big that, unlike chicken eggs, they measurably lose weight every day. Egg 22, for example, should lose 1.7 grams every single day.

Last night's weigh in showed that dry was not going to work, since we are just so dry here right now. 22 lost about 4 grams instead of 1.7, double what it should have. So water has been added. It is so dry, however, that even with both water wells filled, the humidity is only at 27% in there. We'll see how that does, but I will have to add paper towels to the wells to add more surface area if that's not enough.

Do you happen to have any cotton quilt batting? I found that it works better than paper towels, droop it down thru the wells and overhang on both sides of the wells, under the tray. Ruby had tried some type of mechanic's oil-dry fabric and sent a piece to me. It seemed a lot like my quilt batting so I tried it. It doesn't dry out as fast as paper towels. And its washable/reusable.

Thanks for the tip! I think I do have some around somewhere. The trick will be finding it :p

Okay, quick egg weight update!

Egg 22 lost 3.3 grams over the past two days, which is 1.65 grams a day based on a seven week incubation (could very well take a few days longer). It should be losing about 1.74 grams a day so that just a little low. Egg A lost 2.3 grams each day and should be losing 1.75 a day, so that is a little too much. Egg B, the smallest egg, lost 1.65 grams a day and should be losing 1.67, so that is pretty much perfect.

That is soooo frustrating when they are all over the place like that. Since you got me started on weighing them, I see some that do that too but still hatch. Fingers crossed!
