Quail Thread! Button, Coturnix, Bobwhite and More!

Ok, can't find my pics of my quail. Put'em in a file I can't seem to locate. I think their scattered in with the thousands of pheasant pics. Here's a few that I still had on a memory stick. Button quail and Mexican Speckeled Bobwhites.

My husband would say its time for a night hunt!!
.22 & a nightscope :thumbsup

Very few people in NZ own guns, plus we are in the middle of suburbia. You'd be hard pressed to find a police officer carrying a gun here (some have tasers though). There just isn't the need for it. We also don't have the big predators like you guys have to deal with - just small, introduced pests like stoats (introduced to keep the released rabbit population in check except the native birds were much easier prey), rats, and feral cats. We have many native birds that can only exist on off shore islands where all predators have been eliminated because they evolved in pretty much paradise where there was very little danger. My favourite is the Kakapo - the worlds only nocturnal, flightless parrot. They are so cute but critically endangered. Here's a video if you're interested:

Awe they are so cute!!! I may have to get some button quail.
My little girl would love to watch them... only problem is the cats would torment them!!
But they are so cute!!!

As long as you keep the buttons safely caged in a cage that has closed sides and is only open for the cats to look in from the front, I wouldn't worry. My buttons pretty much ignore the cats. I have zebra finches, budgies and gouldian finches as well and that's a problem, they get scared if the cats attack the cage, but the buttons barely raise their heads.

This is awesome!! Thanks for sharing!
I love learning aboud animals.
And that is one i did not know about.

Where did you get those water dishes??? Love the size!
On ebay, there was a seller, had them 3 for $9 plus shipping. I love'em, babies can not drown. Hold about 3oz.
There might be an auction on for them now, I don't know, haven't look at quail or pheasant auctions in awhile.
Edit: just checked, their not on there right now. They will be in the spring.
