Question about double yoker chick? Sad ending

Sorry for your loss. I am new here and just found your story. Just for reference.....how can you tell if an egg is a double yolk? I have brown eggs from Rhode Island/New Hampshire hens. When cooking, I've noticed the eggs that are larger than normal are the double yolks. Is this always the case?
