Question about redosing ivermectin for mites.

I use to do the drop method but I noticed the mites seem to come back quickly so to the best if my knowledge I was underdosing them. Below is for Ivermectin pour on 5mg per mL

Ive had best results using the baby medicine syringes for giving medicine to infants orally. I use 0.1mL for every 2.2 lb of birds. I give my female bantams 0.1-0.15mL as a rough guess they weigh 3 lb each, bantam boys get 0.15 mL each and my big hens get 0.3mL and big roosters 0.35-0.4mL

I turn them upside down, pull feathers away from vent and apply on skin around vent since it tends to have less feathers and easier to access than other places. I know you didnt ask for that info lol but wanted to give my recommendations since Ive been through this a lot and this is what worked best for me 👍
Thanks! I'll try that when I redose. I have a baby medicine syringe at home.

Is it possible to overdose them accidentally? I certainly don't want to do that.....
Im sure you can over dose them if you put an excessive amount, but Ive given doses to chickens over 100-200 times and never over dosed. I raise bantam ameraucanas and bantam dominiques and the 0.1mL-0.15mL has been ideal for me, and for Large fowl ameraucanas and easter eggers the 0.3-0.35mL has worked out well. Ive never weighed my birds either, but weighing would give you a very accurate dosing. 0.1 mL for 2.2 lb is the recommended dose 👍

Thanks! I haven't seen anymore live mites on my bantam so it's working! I will dose more accurately when we retreat.

We retreated this past Saturday more accurately with a food scale, I didn't see any mites. Then today I checked and I see mites again😩 Are these just from eggs hatching? I have treated twice and plan to treat AT LEAST 1 more time.

If my pet bird (a rock pigeon) spends time around a flock of untreated birds every morning and is therefore exposed to new mites daily, would Ivermectin drops onto the skin still help keep mites from surviving on him? How often may I repeat the treatment considering his unusual case of spending time with a wild untreated flock every morning but sleeping indoors with me every night? Would treating once a week be too much or cause overdose? Also, if Ivermectin essentially kills mites by remaining in the bloodstream and paralyzing the mites when they bite the bird, why is it recommended to repeat treatment shortly after the first dose? Does it not stay in the system and continue to kill blood-suckling mites for longer than 1-2 weeks at a time?

I dose 3 times and clean out coop and spray down coop with an insecticide each time I dose them. Ive also had good luck with a pyrethrin dip. I live in a low land area that holds water with high humidity so i get mites every spring. This year I did the dip on top of the treatment and they didnt come back, also a good area for them to dust bath helped out just as good if not better than any treatment Ive done. Best of luck 🤞🤞
Do you redose ivermectin 3 times? How many days apart ?
