1. Corporate greed over service to humanity- It's entire buisness model is designed to trap farmers into a system of economic dependance, to turn famers into indentured servants who can never return to traditional farming after their soil has been destroyed by roundup.
2. Death over life. GM corn grown a toxic chemical inside each and every corn kernel.
3. Secrecy over Transparency- Monsanto spent millions of dollars to defeat Proposition 37 in Californa-- a bill which would simply require GMO's to be indicated on food labels.
4. Domination of technology rather than sharing of widom- When Monsanto's GMO seeds blow into the fields of farmers who are trying to avoid growing GMOs, Monsanto uses its patent "rights" to sue the farmers and claim they "stole" Monsanto property.
5. Artificial manipulation of nature rather than honoring of nature. Terminator seeds threaten all human life on the planet. Billions of lives are threatened by self-terminating seeds.
6. Environmental destruction over environmental stewardship- Actual crop yields lower than organic farming over a 5 year period.
7. Scientific deception over scientific proof- Instead of testing GMOs for long periods on animals, Monsanto-funded scientists test GMOs a mere 90 days and then adamantly declare the food to be "safe" for a lifetime of consumption by humans.
I will address each of your concerns one at a time but there is not ONE fact in any of your 7 concerns, not one.
1. Greed is greed and greed will remain what it is regardless if it is Monsanto, Steve Jobs, Al Gore, Mitt Romney, Oprah Winfrey or any other corporate or personal entity committing the greed. Please clarify your point. I guess we all are guilty of greed and a little or maybe a lot of avarice. As for Roundup, it is first not a poison but a hormone. Second it is so short lived in the environment that Organic farmers are allowed to use it to rid their fields of noxious weeds before planting.
2. Statement 2 is completely false and it may be bordering on a lie. The thing in Bt corn that kills the European corn borer moth caterpillar is a small fragment of DNA from a naturally occurring bacteria that even your own chickens eat in large amounts every day that they scratch and peck in the dirt or eat grit found in nature. And as I pointed out earlier, the same bacteria has been sprayed in large amounts over organically grown food crops since about 1920. It has been a few years now since I read the Bt label but I think that it is forbidden for an organic farmer to spray Bt insecticides (the same poison that you claim is in Bt corn) on his fresh organic fruit and vegetables for a whole 1/2 hour (that's 30 minutes) before giving, selling or allowing a school child to eat one of his apples or a head of cabbage. So just how dangerous can Bt bacteria be to you and I? It is you who called Bt corn a poison so if you have this evidence in your possession please put it on display for all of us to see. Let me point out to you that if you have this evidence in your possession and you fail to share it you may be opening yourself up for a reckless manslaughter charge, so don't hold anything back. Remember you condemned Monsanto for failing to share their knowledge or intellectual properties with the rest of us, so it is past time for you to come forward with your scientific or personal knowledge concerning the real dangers posed by Bt plants.
3. I don't know were to start on this one, but it is obvious from you comment that the anti-GMO people are intent on dominating all corporate and other economic activity likely for their own selfish and narrow purposes. At their best they are no better or no worst than Monsanto and at their worst they are likely much worst than Monsanto ever hoped to be.
4. Here you've come full circle again to Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Goggle, Disney, Oprah, or any number of high of low tech companies that have closely held intellectual properties. If you must give your labor, your ideas, and your closest guarded secrets away to anybody that asks for them why would anyone do anything? Speaking of Steve Jobs, he was not only a well known and as far as I can tell lifelong vegetarian, but he also was an advocate of organics. Jobs could afford the best health care in the world but when he came down with stage one colon cancer Jobs doubled down his bet on vegetarianism and opted for a holistic type treatment consisting of even more organically grown fruits, nuts, vegetables and whole grains Sadly despite all the naturally grown organic nectar of cauliflower, yoke of eggplant, chufas, and watercress, all grown with the help of or prepared in the purest Di-Hydrogen Monoxide that money can buy, the cancer grew and grew. Finally Steve Jobs' personal operating system crashed and I guess that he is now waiting on that hard drive in the sky for the big system administrator to reboot him.
5. Even fencing in your chickens to keep them safe from predators at night or when you can't watch them is a manipulation of nature because face it, you are preventing a fox or hawk from fulfilling its own ethos which is to kill your chickens, usually in the most gruesome and bloody manner possible, then rip your chickens apart and eat them. In the case of the hawk however the eating usually gets under way while the hen or rooster is still alive and conscious. But hey, hawks will be hawks, the little scamps.
6. This is so far out in deep left field that no response is really necessary but I did previously point out 7 ways that GM technology helps humans and the environment and now I must ask the good people reading this if they think these benefits are real or if they are simply chopped liver like you maintain? As for yields versus a profit for the farmer, you haven't taken into consideration what the organic farmers inputs in labor and maturial for both pest and weed control is, or any of the other variables that make farming an iffy proposition. But hey, if you aren't the one out there working in the broiling Sun all day or putting your home and lively hood at risk each spring, then one can make all kinds of wild claims. The claim you made about yields only shows now far extreme environmentalist are divorced from economic reality, in the real world yields do not equal profits. If you are int rested in my take on it, the extreme environmentalist are mad that Monsanto beat them in the race to be the first to genetically modify a living organism. Yes I know this statement is silly, but it is no sillier than some of the stuff I see or hear coming from the extreme environmental lobby.
7. Testing is on going and it is conducted through out the life of the product. Every year's seeds are a brand new batch, and most of them are also hybrids as well as GMOs. It is in Monsanto or any other seed company's best int rest to make sure that there has not been any genetic creep like you claim to be so concerned with. I even think this is clutching at straws or your part. Because the people who denounce every improvement in the human condition usually denounce animal testing in the loudest and most strident fashion. I find it hard to believe that you would embrace vivisection or call for a massive increase in animal testing even if you thought that it would result in GM technology being banned.
here is some help for you concerning the dangers that GM organisms especially those containing the
Bacillus thuringiensis present. The subject is Beta-exotoxin:
Quote: Gee, what that means is that the Bt pesticide sprays that contain the whole B. thuringiensis spore or organism are more dangerous for you than Bt food crops because Bt GMOs only have the one tiny part of the B. thuringiensis gene in them that kills caterpillars. Who would have thunk that Bt GMOs are safer for you than old fashion organic vittles. Why you could have knocked me down with a chicken feather!
