"No, of course not, that would be shameful." Heronpaw remarked, "Alright. I'm sure I can handle it."
"Doubt it." Crowpaw meowed. "Your legs are to short to run fast enough to catch a rabbit. And your claws, at least from what I've heard, are long and sharp for catching fish swiftly. That's not going to help catching rabbits."

"So I'm short, that's a problem." Heronpaw meowed, "But your claws are long, too, what's the matter with mine? And in my opinion, you're too impatient for fishing. There, now we both have disadvantages."

Huffing, Crowpaw curled his tails against his side. "Fine, fine, we both have disadvantages." He muttered. "Fine. If you think you're so keen, then go catch a rabbit. I think I scented one just a moment ago. Behind that clump of bushes over there."

"I'll just go do that, then." Heronpaw said decidedly, bounding off into the bushes.

Crowpaw shook his head, snorting. "She'll never catch one."
Heronpaw bounded through the undergrowth, occasionally being swatted by a fern or the like. She took in her surroundings silently as the foliage brushed her blue-gray pelt. Then she caught the scent of her prey. Her paws and legs tiring by the second, not used to so much running, she spotted the furry tail of the rabbit. By now it had heard her and dashed away, but to her surprise, she kept up decently. It disappeared from her view every so often, but it was always found again. Finally she had come within striking distance and pounced upon the small creature, only to find herself looking in between her paws to see nothing but air. Legs aching, but refusing to give up the chase and let her pride be diminished by the teasing that would undoubtedly commence should she return with nothing, she pressed on. The rabbit had gained quite a distance, but, she eventually overtook it and leaped again. The kill was messy, she had slipped and almost let it get away, but stretched out a desperate forepaw and hooked her claws into its tail, pulling it backwards. She glanced down at the creature before delivering the killing bite. She grabbed the animal by it's scruff and started to pad back to the others, mostly proud of her kill, but knowing it could have easily gotten away had she not clawed its tail. Heronpaw thought disdainfully, That's not how a catch should be done. as she made her way back to the others, having to walk a little ways farther, knowing they couldn't stop for petty challenges. She hauled the rabbit over to Crowpaw and dropped it, "I'll spare you the details, I'm not meant for catching rabbits and you could've undoubtedly caught this faster than I did."

Crowpaw lifted his head up, glanced at the rabbit. He nodded, shrugging. "At least you can say you caught one, right? Maybe sometime I can teach you how to properly catch a rabbit." He meowed, flicking his tail to Coldshard, Morningpaw and Sparrowpaw. "Come eat, there is enough for us all if we share."

Coldshard was suprised by the medicine cat apprentice's skill. She had no hunting experience whatsoever. He may have been able to catch one in that setting, but he knew that he would never be able to catch one in the open, where Crowpaw did.
He was surprised by Crowpaw's sudden generosity toward him and wondered why none had been offered to Thunderwave. Crowpaw probably thinks I look wiry, but I am way better fed than him.
"Thank you, Heronpaw," he said. He stood back and waited for the younger cats to eat first, wondering if he should even accept it. Heronpaw hadn't even offered it to him. "Actually, that's ok," he said. "I can do some hunting for myself, if that's ok?"
He took a hesitant step for the forest, ears already turning towards the sound of a mouse rustling in the undergrowth.

"Go ahead. I don't care." Crowpaw shrugged, grooming his paws before drawing them over his ears.

Coldshard walked over into the forest of pines. Why did I ask his permission? He thought. He shoved the thought and ran over to a younger tree, agile as a margay, climbing up the trunk to a low branch. To be honest, right now it looked like a spruce. He waited, motionless, until a fat mouse scurried by, then pounced from the branch, silently, killing it with one bite. He thanked Starclan, and walked back through the forest to where the cats sat.
