Raccoon Baiting

Yes. That is why I mentioned they are always considered rabid.
The most Humane thing to do with rabid animals is destroy them.
It's absolutely irresponsible to spread the problem elsewhere.

If you’re going to shoot them, use a foot trap. You will only catch baby raccoons in those live traps (old, fat coons won’t go near them) — and if you’ve ever tried shooting something in a live trap... well, you probably won’t do it again.

Cats can’t really trip a foot trap, but if you’re worried load them up with roasted marshmallows. Drives raccoons crazy.

I have a trap exactly like this one, and I put table scraps of chicken under the treadle area. Just put bait on the ground and set the trap over the top of it. Or, you could get a small can of Cat-food and set it at the very end of the trap inside. Coons are not real fussy. Hopefully you don't catch a Skunk! If you catch anything, remember to wash your hands really well after handling! Lyme Disease is deadly, and other things are messy and nasty. Exercise Caution!
About catching skunks: I've relocated a few in other areas than where I now live - method is to hold up a tarp or moisture proof curtain when approaching trapped skunk, so it cannot see any part of you, and slowly drape it over the trap, lift and tuck so it encloses the trap, drive more than a few miles away and release. This is illegal in my area.

Just want to say, I do understand the concept of not spreading the problem to others, but I cannot bring myself to kill a wild animal unless I am starving or it is fatally injured. But it is legal in my area to kill them if caught. Any suggestions? (Actually, since I predator proofed my coop - chain link dog run with wire screen reinforcements and Add-a-Motor D20 + timer auto-coop door haven't had any bloody massacres.)
