Well darn. I wonder if the package was treated roughly? Do any of them have bruises or any other signs?

And what hatchery did you get them from. Mine are coming from Murray McMurray.
Same hatchery— when chickes are shipped they don’t get heated, co hypothermia sets in. I like getting middle June first two weeks in July shipments- but these. Same up available this week and all the rest were sold out.

I closed the windows and door- I am waiting for the older hens to come in,
I can’t do anything else except pray the coop doesn’t burn down and they live until 4am image.jpg

I went out and propped the door open for the older hens,
this was last night when they finally [after I made them] came into the coop. they didnt want to due to the set up of the brooder and the chicks, they are not liking this at all.

BUT!
the chicks did fine, I saw everyone breathing, the temp was 79/80 and they were not piled on each other. This is good. This is how they were at ??11pm or what ever time it was I went out last night to check them.

I pray this day goes easy.
I have laundry that needs done and some lite housekeeping.

Well, it’s Monday,
I cut more chicken wire to go over the brooder and put fresh towels down. They discovered the sand. They can get to a small amount but I don’t want them digging up a dirt storm. Going out again now to check the temp.
One died yesterday early morning about 9:30.
I’ll call Murray McMurray at 6:30 and report my total loss.
Poor littles

Sorry you lost another one. How many survived?

The way I treat pasty butt is to hold the chick with my hand wrapped around it, butt sticking out. I place the dirty butt under a small stream of running warm water and gently massage away the dried feces. The warm water and massage seems to stimulate a bowel movement and get things working again.

My chicks will be shipped from McMurray sometime this week. Wish me and the chicks luck!

I too use a tiny bit of water to dissolve poo, being so very careful not to mess
With the ambelicel s/p cord
