Raising My First Batch of Bantam Chicks!

IMG_5537.jpeg

Goodnight distant chicken soulmates!!! 🫶🏼🌙

so that I can go and play with them and they have room to run around and play
Yes! One of the primary reasons I chose tent! It works great so now they’re not scared of me coming in with them!

I have to figure out some toys though…I put a plastic little egg in there and they hid from it lol
Yeah, I make toys put of whatever scraps I have around. Also sparkly necklaces are good attractions! Yeah, no surprise they hid from the egg, although kinda sad for us. I put grit in there with mine on a raised blue platform about 3 days ago (I’ll try to send pics tomorrow) and they were so scared of it! They still barely go by it. But with food on it now one of my Cochins finally ate calmly off it today. 😅 I worry way too much about these things!

Hi Pecky😊 he is the reason for the radio silence. The chicks all started chirping anxiously and weren’t stopping. I was so worried and didn’t know what to do. I stayed up until four in the morning keeping an eye on them and finally went to bed. I woke up feeling like sleep deprived first time, mother of a child that wouldn’t stop crying.
The only thing I could think of is that the tote was too warm… I headed into town to the feed store to find one of those brooder plates that the Chickens can huddle under…they didn’t have one so I bought a new lamp and a different bulb….a RED one…
When I set it up and turned it on there was instantaneous silence …deafening silence. I sat there for five minutes, waiting for it to start up again and it didn’t.
The chicks have been eating ,sleeping and just being cute…There’s lots of little happy little chirps. And a totally relieved chick mommy…
Thanks for your

worry…it’s an ugly thing…keeps me from moving forward…which is exactly wiring that as far as moving the chickens into the tent. I keep thinking of all the things that might go wrong and how I might fix them… finally realized this morning, but if it isn’t working, I can always put them back in their tote. I honestly think they’re getting bored in there. I put in a piece of soft paper with silver tinsel bars on it … from the kind of gift bag that you get from Amazon.
They are pecking away at it today…
I have a kind of pen made out of tent material like a tent…I guess I’ll have to show you.😀 i’m gonna try putting them in there first… to give them to Rome, my little Polish chicken is already flying up to the top of the cardboard box that I put in there for them to hide in… hope everything is going well with you and your little ones❤️

Yay! @Senorahoney I’m so glad your chicks are happier! I would’ve never thought their heat system would bother them so much but I’m relieved that you figured it out!

For my babies, they are doing wonderful and continuously growing!!!
Today I fed them some fresh-picked greens and this is the best they’ve understood what to do with it and only their 3rd time interacting with it! In the bunch was young dandelion greens, grass, and clover. They loved all of it and pecked vigorously, gobbling it all up. It was a joy to watch!
My Silkies are getting braver, too, and coming closer to me and pecking the greens unlike before. This makes me happy!
My one silkie with the white-skinned toes is grownups mostly black feathers but 2 have white tips. Definitely pet quality black silkie. But he’s (no idea of true gender) super cute (and the only one of his breed I can readily tell apart 😅).
I love when I’m simply reaching an arm in the tent (to refill their feeder which empties in record time) my D’uccles immediately jump onto my arm! It’s so cute and they don’t mind that their “roost” was moving around! ☺️ LOL 😆

That is so cute that they jump onto your arm❤️❤️
I’ll be getting my D’uccle and Easter egger frizzle bantams on July 14th along with a mottled Cochin bantam and a blue sex-linked bantam😄
I went a little crazy and ordered a Columbia Wyandotte and a Cream Legbar standard size….Im gonna be overrun with chicks

The chicks I bought at the feed store to keep my babies company are 2 Standard size Blue stars,An olive egger and a blue cuckoo Marans…
Aaaack! 10 chicks !!!! What was I thinking!
It is and gonna be so fun…I love my grown hens❤️ they are so much fun… and they all have such different personalities…I getting very attached to my silver gray Dorking….she is alert and calm…I.e.keeps an eye on me and doesn’t panic❤️
