Rasing coturnix on a large scale

KYCrawler, you should contact Tony (Steelshot) here on BYC. His eggs are fresh and clean, and he packs them SO well.

No, the hogs, although the info on the beef is also helpful since that's what DH wants to raise (just one calf at a time, though)

Don't raise one alone. You need two as we learned the hard way. Last year we raised 6, 3 angus and 3 hereford. We sold all but one angus which we were going to slaughter, but before we got around to doing it she jumped the fence and we never found her. So a several hundred dollar mistake well learned.

the bottom of the pen is 38 inches from the ground the flashing does make it slippery so they cant climb the legs . On a side note i set some traps last night and went out every hour till 230 am and trapped 2 and shot 4 coons and a possum i hit 2 more coons but didnt find them i saw another one as well but it was between me and the neighbors house i have 1 trap still set and will be making a round or 2 tonight as well , I didnt realize there were that many around here

i plan on contacting steelshot for some chukar eggs so i may see about quail as well

well i have to go pen chickens up and get the big quail brooder ready i have about 375 due to hatch tomorrow and 200 on the 3 rd the batch of eggs from middle georgia quail farm are probably about 25% pipped and due to hatch tomorrow out of 500 eggs i had about 20-25 explode incubator stinks needs a complete shutdown and cleaning wont order from them anymore that was the first eggs i have ever had explode

I got a bunch of chukar eggs from him... in fact, they're due to be transfered to the hatcher tomorrow!

He's my favorite "dealer" (he feeds my addiction to hatching bobwhites and chukar!

)

oooh, he has some pretty neat pheasants, too...

i have the bobwhites covered i have a couple breeders and buy some eggs as well i hink i would like to try out some chukars though as not many people seem to have them probably not much market for them around here

i use a similar setup for my breeder quail but those style cages dont hold enough for grow out pens if you have lots of birds

the aluminum flashing did not keep the coons from climbing the legs i lost about 10 more birds last night the pen now has 3 strands of hot wire running around the legs 2 outside and 1 inside I am getting really tired of raccoons that makes close to 25 quail now in the course of 3 weeks
