I had to use a paper bag for my lunch.... I got to use the same one, and had to take good care of it so that it would last as long as possible.

Now that's hardcore.
I remember as a kid I had a grandma that always did and made us wash the aluminum foil when she baked something. She could make a piece of foil last till the shine was wore off.

we did too.... and reused plastic sandwich bags for forever... like zip lock bags but thinner, and no zip lock.

Mom didn't even wash them unless they "needed" it.

I still remember the disappointment when my sandwich gad cookie crumbs... yeah... I got cookies.

Jeez I do the sandwich bags myself. We just got past that need a snack with me everywhere I go stage with my youngest.
I do get the fancy glad ziplocks. I don't wash them but will turn them inside out for a good shaking. Usually they get thrown away when they get holes.
I thought everyone did that. Those things are too expensive to use just once.
Now don't I feel like the pot calling the kettle black

Oh, I remember. We used to reuse the plastic bags the (white, sliced) bread came in to put your sandwich in.
I'd still reuse those ziplock bags. They aren't single-use. It'd be terribly wasteful to use one only once. (I don't use any of those bags anyway, I'd just stick the sandwich in a reusable container).

I used to love Mondays because I could buy lunch from the tuck shop. I can't remember what happened yesterday, or in a movie I've just finished watching, but I can remember exactly what everything cost and what you could buy for your money when I was in primary school. I remember when the bus fare went up from 3 cents to 5 cents and everybody shaking their heads as to how expensive everything was getting.
I just looked up how far it was from my school to the bus stop and it's about a mile. Do you think that would be considered "too far" to make a kid of between 7 and 12 walk every day these days? Rural kids would definitely walk, but city kids today? I suspect they'd want a shuttle to pick them up at the door, but maybe I'm wrong about that.
