Less popular, Flat coats. And my personal favorite, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, who have never been popular, fortunately, because they are also guard type dogs, who will either be well trained or not...

Chessies are less popular for a reason... we are living with our third currently. He is the most affectionate of the three, but it is still all about him... They are A LOT.

I would like to one day train a retriever (golden or chesapeake?) to go hawking and hunting with me. I don't have my falconry license yet, but we'll see in a few years!

I have some mildish mobility issues but like to go hiking so a sweet chill, but active dog would be great for me.

One of my friends has a 6 month old golden retriever puppy and he is soooo sweet and calm even when he was little. His older "sister" is very excitable and energetic. You can definitely tell the difference between show and field lines 🤣

I know someone that had dogs like that. One super calm, one very energetic LOL the calm one unfortunately passed away but they do still have the energetic one who is a lot calmer now LOL and they also have a new puppy now who I have not met so cannot say her personality. But yeah.

Anyways, I don’t know that Chessies fit chill. At least not with strangers.

You would be better off with a LAB or Golden, IMO rather than a CHESSIE or Golden.

But I suppose if you put enough work into the dog and gave it a job, it might be okay. But even then, they can be VERY protective which some people can handle and some can’t.
