Retrievers or Spaniels!?

Oh okay, like it's not breed standard or the overall idea of the breed?
I think they just don’t have the energy and drive of a larger spaniel nor the size. Temperament might be different too? They’re basically more like a toy breed than a spaniel. They’ve got a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Cavs really do seem like amazing dogs! I’ll probably have one one day 🤣🙈 but I think I need something a little bigger atm. But maybe not. Idk.

Don't let the size fool you! Totally get the size thing. Especially since you also have Brewster, who is a rough player. From my very limited experience, and what I've seen through other people's Cavaliers (his breeder had a Bullmastiff literally in with the 10 week olds) they do not seem to be phased by rougher play, or bigger dogs

Yep! Pretty much. IMO not many differences in temperament, but if someone else would like to challenge that, I'd definitely be willing to hear their side and very possibly switch over. But energy requirements and size definitely. I guess temperament too, in the sense that a Spaniel Spaniel would be much more focused on a bird than say some Cavaliers are. Don't get me wrong, a Cavalier will still be very much interested in a bird or any small "prey" animal, but when it comes down to it, there's not much a Cavalier will follow up with when it comes to behavior
