Revamping run, in need of ideas

Looks like you have a decent sized yard so if there's a spot you don't mind having chips dumped on, I'd see if any local tree companies would be willing to do that (either for free or for gas money). At least in my area, tree trucks have "Call for free chips" stickers on the back.
Thats definitely something to look into. My only concern would he that fresh chips, (not aged) would be to hard on the ducks feet since its a duck run. The aged chips are at least aged and softer.

I would get chips dumped now and let them age - you'll end up using them up later.

In the meantime, if you can get some aged chips from 20 mi away as you mentioned, that would help tide you over for the next few months to get the process started.

This is excellent advice to which I can add nothing.

Thats a good idea. I'll definitely look into getting some dumped here. Thanks for the ideas!

What about rebuilding it on the grass and let the current muddy terrain heal back to grass. Keep your coop mobile and move to the grass?
I did build a chicken tractor for my chickens, and love the mobile design. The problem is, you can see we already have an established duck "pond" in the run, and keeping git mobile would mean having to use a kiddie pool and dump it everyday.
Of course, I could definitely make it happen, but I would prefer to fit the current space rather then duck coop up another part of the yard. ;)

I would say mulching is your best bet. It would actively compost and every year or two, clean it all out and let it age then it’s be fantastic for your garden. Look into getchipdrop.com. It’s free but it may take a bit to get a truck load, depending on where you live. Moving the mulch by garbage can would be rough. You’ll never regret buying a wheel barrow though. And if you can get the chips for free, it may balance out with expenses.

Totally. I think I'll be able to get a good amount on our flat bed for the aged chips, and then I'll look at that website for chips to age. Thanks so much for all the ideas everyone! I hope I can get everything I need!
