Ribh's D'Coopage

Oh Kris! :hugs I was so hoping you'd be in your house this winter! Again I am so happy those little rugs are getting used. Sharing with the cats is purrfect. ;)
I promise to take some pictures this week when I get down there to attach the joist hangers and take down the scaffolding. The view from our bedroom window is going to be amazing! Rain is expected for this weekend again so I will probably be rigging up some tarps on angles to shed the water for now. Honestly if we can Just get it closed in for winter I will be thrilled. Our weather went from sweltering heat to torrential rains and has now settled into a heavy fog.

It’s usually Bullet that I have to share with, as Charlie prefers to find more exotic sleeping postures and locations. This is tonight (snuggled in with my little girl), and yesterday, as I was mid sorting things to move in and out for winter and organizing some of the stuff for a run into the storage locker in Vancouver. 0AC63C49-85D2-4EAA-88FF-7C838B03BF6C.jpeg

I am so thrilled. :D Probably silly of me but the thought of my little rugs all around the world tickles me pink.😊 The cats are a wonderful addition! 🥰

I’m hoping I can be back on more now that we are starting to move into our fall. There are still so many projects on the go here, some days it seems there is just no time at all! I’m currently stretched quite thin, but if I can get a working 4wd vehicle for winter I have a place I can raise some chicks with power and heat, and running water, all the luxuries! The catch is the same as my gardening was this year though, it’s a half hour drive away. Considering how my tomatoes languished with my “it’s too hot to walk over there!” This summer, I want to be 100% certain, before I even think about rearing chicks that far from home, that I have a reliable way to get to them...

Other things I’ve been busy with are Bumble foot in two Roosters (Dean, very mild and on my get to that ASAP list, and Roostie’s extremely severe and in both feet, so a major priority) and a crop problem in one hen (impacted and sour). Roostie has always walked funny (he’s about 13-15lbs) so I didn’t notice his limp until it became fairly pronounced. Also because of his size I try not to really handle him unless I absolutely have to. Luckily for me, he’s also my sweetest and most docile Rooster. I am treating his feet one at a time, because currently his right foot (the worse one that I started treating first) he won’t really use and he needs to be at least a little mobile. He also will not stand to be separated from his hens, so I had to set up a small fenced in yard for them. That he allowed my to hold him with one arm while using the other to remove part of the bumble was astounding, and I know my face was far too close to his while I was working on it (it I had tried that with Chickie Hawk he would have taken out my eye for sure!), and I know it must have been quite painful for him at times as well. He looked at me with such trust the entire time “I know it hurts, but she is making it better” was writ all over his little chicken face.

SHOUT OUT!!!

KRIS HAS PROMISED US PICTURES!!!!
:wee :thumbsup:celebrate:clap:ya

And now it is set in stone! I will have to get myself down there (I have some pics, but they are on the iPad and not my phone). If the fog clears you will get a good view, if not... the fog itself is quite spectacular.

I missed the perfect photo op when the framers were here. It was raining all weekend while we worked, but Saturday night, as I was doing evening chicken chores, it stopped and I looked up from closing in Hawk and there was a rainbow right over the house (with Andrew and Sukh standing under it on the second story floor)! Of course my phone was in the truck parked at the house, and by the time I ran down to get it for the pic, it was over. It seemed quite the good omen/blessing.

Suyin has company.

She has been joined by 2 broodies, Wrold & Mhari, & Medh, who hasn't been allowed to eat @ the feeders for the past 2 nights & I thought was starting to look depressed. Medh had a big pig out as soon as I put her in the little coop. Mhari & Wrold have been bokking @ each other & Mhari took umbrage & went for Wrold. Suyin grabbed the last patch of sunlight & ignored everyone. Funny chook.

Wowsers this feels like I posted it a century ago.
I feel like the worst chicken owner in the world. Let me begin at the start.
As you all know I had a fox kill 12 chickens of mine and I have bought 5 more. My baby Wyendotte froze to death last night. It was 0 degrees and the 3 other pullets and the rooster where fine. God I feel AWFUL! I’m no too sure I could have done anything to help but OMG I feel like the worst chicken owner.
