Ribh's D'Coopage

Yes, that is my working theory. But then odd things happen that make me rethink. So today, when they were all hanging together Elizabeth found a stink bug and Maggie snatched it from her and ate it. Pretty cheeky for #3.
The omega hen is usually quite adept at stealing food from others. They need to be to get their share. Phyllis and Sydney are both really good at theiving food, Sydney especially. Phyllis uses that mop on her head to block others when she does find something to eat. That would be consistent behavior with number 3.

It can be difficult if you have three go along get along hens. Three Hattie's would be hard to separate by order.

Honestly most of my girls are nutters but dominance or bullying are not really issues. All mine like to roost on the top bar but it doesn't fit 14. Everyone, including my top hens, takes their turn on the 2nd roost. So much depends on the individual personalities of the girls & who gets along together. My favorelles & BRs hang together. They seem to have quite similar personalities & builds, while my Campines & Wyandotte bantams get along really well. Again quite similar in personalities if not looks. The Aracaunas are outsiders, probably because they are different looking. Lavender is an older hen now so despite being peculiar as all get up gets on with everybody ~ just not all @ the same time. :lau

I knew about it because one of my mates lived in paris for a couple of years and the white night is a big deal celebration these days. Everyone stays out late and there are shows and buskers. A but like the opening night of an arts or frinfe festival.
Why am I not surprised? :D You seem to have a most interesting collection of friends.

It's chilly here now. This warm and toasty lap brought to you by @Ribh

It's wonderful to have it out again!

I was just logging in to say the same thing! But I don’t have a good pic because I’m still in the midst of cleaning the trailer and getting it in order for winter. we have had fog and constant damp chill for weeks now, but setting down with a warm purring rug (once I convince my cats to share) helps ward off the blues.

Oh Kris! :hugs I was so hoping you'd be in your house this winter! Again I am so happy those little rugs are getting used. Sharing with the cats is purrfect. ;)

I envy you, as every night I have been needing to adjust the girls in my least accessible coop. For weeks. I have installed a third roost, but still no luck. All my roosts are one level. It’s not even the two roosters that are the problem (yes two, I tried to separate them then gave up and moved the hens in instead), it is the three youngest chickens and my two bully girls. They are only three weeks younger than the other two new additions to the coop, who are 5 month younger than the original 6 ladies. I have watched my bully girl go from the back corner of the coop three roosts forward and to the opposite corner to knock the girls off the otherwise empty roost! If I adjust them once it is dark enough she doesn’t try it, but I’ve also had her come after my hand as I’m trying to get the three others off the floor.

I was in our Produce store today [like America's feed stores] to pick up chicken food, cat flea & tick treatment & some Apple Cider Vinegar & what should I spy but 2 crates of cute yellow fluffballs! I was going to take a pic but just then the server came by & I asked what breed their chicks were. I was told Hyliners & before I could stop myself I blurted Oh! We don't do those! 😳 Yikes. I need a better filter. I know it's not the staffs fault & I know lots of people are only interested in egg production but I was just so sad. To the girl's credit she gave me a sympathetic & understanding look. We both knew those poor chicks were doomed to short lives. :( The worst part is most people won't know that when they buy them. They'll be told they're great little layers ~ & so they are! Sadly.

I hope all things farm related start sorting out well in the very near future. We miss you & will be glad when you can rejoin the fray!
