Ribh's D'Coopage

Sorrow folks, I obviously read too much. First used in 1845 in France. :gig I've obviously had it in my vocab so long [not since 1845, not quite that old] that I thought it was common usage. :lau
I knew about it because one of my mates lived in paris for a couple of years and the white night is a big deal celebration these days. Everyone stays out late and there are shows and buskers. A but like the opening night of an arts or frinfe festival.

I'm sorry. As an Aussie I have no idea what is available in your part of the U.S ~ let alone what would grow there. We are sub~tropical & lots of the scented plants I know [I grew up further south where they do grow] won't grow up here. I have managed to seed most of my raised beds with freesias, which are gorgeous & will take full sun & my Mock Orange is in full sun too. I have a star jasmine just starting to get a move on on the verandah. Daphne is nice ~ but I killed mine. I love lilac but it probably won't grow up here. I haven't got round to trying yet. Some of the magnolias are strongly scented ~ the chooks killed mine. A google search will turn up other things I'm sure. :)
Sorry- I live in East Texas. Zone 7 or 8 depending on which map you use. Our summers get to 100 and a little above. Winters get down to single digits. I have some tulip magnolia trees in the front. they bloom only once a year in early spring. Lovely. I do have a large magnolia tree- it is pretty, but got to say I hate the thing. It is self pruning which means limbs all over the yard. The leaves are thick and the leaf blower and mower do not like them. the seed cones are large and hard- like a pine cone. I have to pick all million of them up before I mow - the mower doesn't like them either. Also, the roots are shallow- they need to breathe. I did not know that and tried to add some dirt around the above ground roots and plant some caladiums. I almost killed the tree. So, you can't add as much as 1/4 inch of dirt or it will kill the tree. Oh well, it IS pretty.
I think mock orange and freesia would do well here - will look at that. Have not seen a Daphne.

@Shadrach will tell you the so called pecking order is much more fluid than most people believe. :D Mine is quite egalitarian. I know which girls like to throw their weight around but they are all middle order girls. My lead hen tends to be very laid back & stays well out of any scuffles.
Mine is rock solid since I added the three new ladies and Sydney accepted Sansa as number 4 without a fight. It moves by seniority in general. I only have 6 so it has been pretty easy to puzzle it out.
